LEARN TO SKATE COORDINATOR (PART TIME)
REPORTS TO: ASSISTANT RECREATION DIRECTOR
PROVIDES DIRECTION TO: GROUP LESSON LEARN TO SKATE STAFF
FLSA STATUS- NON-EXEMPT
NATURE OF WORK
This is a part time position up to 28 hours per week assisting with the development of ice skating programs at the Mt. Lebanon Recreation Center including some supervisory functions responsible for the operation administration and evaluation of community (youth) group and adult skating programs. Hours will vary and include days nights weekends and holidays.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Plan and organize all Learn to Skate group lesson programming including but not limited to arranging class assignments curriculum development and maintaining records and all paperwork connected with the program.
- Hire train and supervise Learn to Skate Staff including assisting with recruitment and onboarding.
- Prepare correspondence and promotional material with the assistance of the Mt. Lebanon Public Information Office for Learn to Skate programs as needed.
- Conduct orientation meeting with parents at the beginning of each series and maintain communication with parents throughout series.
- Respond to inquiries
regarding the group lesson program.
- Fit students with proper skate sizes and check throughout series to maintain.
- Assist with tracking of rental skate inventory and order new skates as necessary.
- Work with the assistance of Skating Club of Mt. Lebanon (SCML) on competitions and annual ice show.
- Coordinate with the Assistant Facility Manger to schedule instructional activities efficiently and to avoid scheduling conflicts.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assist cashier when needed and as possible.
- Performs all other work as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of modern methods of teaching ice skating with a clear understanding of Learn to Skate & Learn to Play principles.
- Proficiency in ice skating.
- Ability to provide instruction for all skating levels and to fill in for instructors when needed.
- Ability to supervise plan and coordinate the work of others.
- Ability to plan organize promote and coordinate program activities and special events.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills that demonstrate an ability to work with employees and the public and exercise responsible judgment.
- Knowledge and understanding of properly fitting skates.
- Communication skills both written and oral.
REQUIRED EDUCATION TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or GED
- Four years or more of experience providing ice skating instruction and experience in maintaining records such as fees attendance etc.
- One year or more experience supervising in the following environments:
- Learn to Skate/Learn to Play Instructor; and/or
- Board member of a
figure skating club
- Current membership with USFS and ISI
- Current CPR/AED & First Aid Certification or the ability to obtain such certifications within 60 days of employment.
- Concussion recognition training is prior to employment and must be renewed annually.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL AND MENTAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Ability to ice skate; ability to stand and sit for extended periods of time; ability to climb bend push pull grasp reach and use hand movement; ability to carry and lift up to 20 lbs. Ability to tolerate cold temperatures; ability to communicate verbally; vision acuity and hearing necessary to provide ice skating instruction.
Ability to concentrate on ice surface and rink areas. Ability to exercise appropriate judgment
relative to the ice rink facility and class rules.
