Position Overview

The Division of Rehabilitation Services is seeking to hire an energetic and detail-oriented Professional Medical Relations Manager to direct activities for the Disability Determination Services (DDS) within the Medical Relations Unit (MRU) on a statewide basis including maintenance of the Consultative Examination (CE) oversight in the areas of recruitment and resolution of consultant scheduling reporting and testing problems. The administrator assists with consultant file maintenance onsite reviews including accessibility reviews of key and problem CE providers presentations/workshops for CE providers and the general medical community and training such as changes in Social Security Disability Program and DDS Case Processing System for MRU staff. This position also supervises professional staff.

Essential Functions

  • Serves as Professional Medical Relations Manager.
  • Monitors CE Panel following SSA Program Policy guidelines.
  • Serves as a working supervisor.
  • Reviews ongoing maintenance of record systems regarding MRU activities following SSA Program Policy guideline including records on each CE Panel member with each members credentials current license signed medical disclosure form sample CE reports and any other form that is required.
  • Utilizes Microsoft Suite to prepare monthly medical relations reports including updates regarding significant activities of the week with recruitment details orientation information consultants added/removed CE problem resolutions and other MRU assignment statistics.
  • Confers with Social Security staff and the BDDS including Administration Technical Services Adjudication Services and Auxiliary Services regarding medical relations issues.
  • Conducts outreach in the medical community.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years college.
  • Requires prior experience equivalent to three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative in the fields of health or human services.

Specialized Skills

  • Of the three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative experience requires two (2) years of experience adjudicating disability claims including medical relations professional experience communicating with medical providers government stakeholders including federal and state congressional contacts and disability claimants.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of professional experience adjudicating disability claims including medical relations professional experience communicating with medical providers government stakeholders including federal and state congressional contacts and disability claimants.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience in all levels of social security disability adjudication and redetermination including experience with Title II and Title XVI of the Social Security Act which could be gained as a Disability Claims Adjudicator II or equivalent.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience conducting case reviews on complex cases and working with rules policies and procedures of federal agencies such as Social Security Administration (SSA).
  • Three (3) years of professional experience utilizing medical terminology body systems medical tests and reports and the effects of various types of impairments.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience preparing and presenting detailed reports spreadsheets and presentations and trainings in an accessible format for various audiences using software such as Microsoft Suite.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience developing and maintaining cooperative professional working relationships.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience thinking independently with strong organizational interpersonal and problem-solving skills to provide resolution toward complaints and issues along with making recommendations and following guidelines and policies.

Conditions of Employment

  • This position has been found to meet the requirements in section 4A-101 of the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act requiring the occupant/employee to file a Statement of Economic Interest. The Illinois Governmental Ethics Act (5 ILCS 420/4A et seq.) requires certain state officials and employees to file annual Statements of Economic Interest with the Office of the Secretary of State that will be made available for examination and copying by the public. All employees required to file a Statement of Economic Interest are also required to file the Supplemental Statement of Economic Interest with the Executive Ethics Commission. (See Executive Order 15-09) Fines and penalties apply to untimely filings.
  • Requires ability to pass a federal employment background check. Individuals selected for positions with the Illinois Disability Determination Service (DDS) must go through a complete federal background investigation suitability determination by the Social Security Administration. Those individuals meeting the state requirements for employment must first complete the federal background investigation prior to their start date. This is necessary to determine whether an employee can be issued credentials in order to have access to the Social Security Disability data records and systems. Further details will be provided during the pre-employment background check process.
