Job SummaryReports to the Kitchen Coordinator and Executive Director and is responsible for coordinating activities related to the preparation serving and cleanup of a weekday evening meal Monday through Thursday and a Saturday lunch meal.Principal Duties and Responsibilities- Complies with Federal State and local rules and regulations regarding food safety and quality standards.
- Demonstrates knowledge of food safety and sanitation by correctly answering questions completion of an approved food safety course and by actions
- Prepares and serves the evening meal and Saturday lunch meal
- Oversees volunteers which change for each meal service
- Adheres to all Community Kitchen Policy and Procedures including those related to:
- Food preparation and safety
- Cleanliness of facility
- Setup of kitchen and dining area
- Gleaning (food donations)
- Recycling and waste
- Cleanup and end-of-shift duties
- Security of facility
- Pick up receive store and inventory perishable and nonperishable food items bought donated or gleaned for the Kitchen
- Adheres to all Personnel Policies and Procedures
- Acts in a professional manner reflecting the mission of The Community Kitchen
- Maintains a peaceful environment in the facility
Skills Required
A. Must be able to interpret follow and train others in health and safety practices and procedures applicable to The Community Kitchen
to relate to and work effectively with a wide variety of groups and individuals as well as clients with diverse needs
C. Must maintain client confidentiality and other information as instructed
D. Excellent interpersonal skills are essential
E. Strong verbal communication skills and attention to detail are required
F. Able to work with a minimal amount of supervision and guidance
G. Able to work with interruptions while maintaining safety and completing tasks
H. Must be physically fit and able to stand for extended periods of time
I. Must be able to lift and carry 30 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds infrequently
J. Must be able to operate kitchen equipment such as stoves slicers dishwashers mixers etc. and explain proper operation and use to many different volunteers
K. Must be able to drive company van to pick up food donations
L. Certified or able to pass food certification course (ServSafe) to assure compliance with federal and state regulations regarding health and safety guidelines
Special RequirementsA. Must possess a valid Iowa state drivers license
B. Must have a good driving record and be insurable to drive company vehicle
C. Pre-Employment physical drug screen and background check required
