Job Title: Explosives Safety Officer
Location: Glasgow
Role: Full Time
Hours: 4 day week Monday-Thursday / 37 hours per week
OME has a fantastic opportunity for an Explosives Safety Officer to manage all onsite explosives processing and safety at Thales OME Glasgow. You will manage the explosive stock account whilst ensuring all company safety procedures are followed and all on-site explosive processing remains within the requirements of the HSE driven Explosive Regulations 2014. As the Explosives Safety Officer you will have exposure across all key functions in Glasgow interfacing with various internal departments and external bodies such as our customers HSE and Police Scotland. Primary Purpose of the Role: You will be directly responsible for managing all Health & Safety matters related to explosive processing whilst providing explosive safety and technical advice to the Glasgow manufacturing department as required. A highly safety focussed individual is sought for. You will also manage the explosive stock account and oversee all onsite explosive processing whilst ensuring compliance with local and external policy.

Key Responsibilities:
Ensuring all explosive facilities in Glasgow continue to be fit for purpose and meet the required safety standards.
Ensure on site explosive processing complies with the HSE Guidelines as set out in the Explosives Regulations 2014.
Manage the explosive stock account ensuring explosive licence limits and explosive quantities are within HSE allocated limits.
Responsible person for the receipt and dispatch of explosives from Glasgow Explosive stock-taking Reconciling the explosive stock account physical count of explosives then comparing the findings against explosive logbooks and the companys MRP System.
Conduct explosive safety audits and implement any corrective actions Provide explosive safety and explosive technical advice to the Glasgow manufacturing department.
Manage the Explosive Risk Register keeping under constant review.
Conduct all COSSHH and Risk assessments relating to explosive activities and keep under review Oversee the explosive disposal process conducted in Glasgow Document any future Health & Safety requirements
Provide training and safety certification for explosive workers/handlers on product and safety Be part of the Glasgow health & safety committee and attend regular meeting representing explosive safety as the subject matter expert (SME)
Skills and Experience:
The successful candidate must have previous experience working within an explosives environment and have an understanding of explosive safety hazards effects and compatibility. Have some form of recognised explosives safety or explosives certification.
An understanding of HSE Guidelines set out in the Explosive Regulations 2014 and policy documents L150 (Safety Provisions) and L151 (Security Provisions). Previous experience of managing explosive safety or safety management and the ability to write safety policy.
Ability to conduct COSHH and Risk assessments. Be able to conduct safety audits and propose remedial actions as necessary to ensure compliance with local and external safety policy.
Be able to provide safety and technical advice for all explosives held in Glasgow and in the unlikely event of an explosive incident manage the situation and carry out all follow up actions
