POSITION SUMMARY:

The Assistant Director of Assessment Data and Strategic Initiatives ensures that student data is secure accurate and accessible to inform instruction promote equity and advance the goals of the Mount Vernon School District Strategic Plan.

This position supports the Teaching Learning and Leadership Department by managing and analyzing student data systems assessment records and program reporting. The Assistant Director plays a key role in the design implementation and ongoing support of district wide assessment programs research initiatives and student information systems.

Through effective systems management and data leadership this position ensures that data is used to guide instructional decision-making accountability reporting and continuous improvement. The Assistant Director drives strategic growth compliance oversight and systems development to support progress toward the districts performance targets.

In collaboration with district leaders the Assistant Director fosters a culture of data use that advances equity strengthens teaching and learning and ensures every student is supported to belong dream and achieve. This role partners with leadership to transform data into actionable insights that advance the districts commitments to student belonging strong academic foundations grade-level mastery and preparation for future success.

Student Data Management Program

  • Manage the migration and maintenance of the Student Data Management System
  • Provide ongoing professional development on Student Data Management System with District Administration Teachers and Support Staff
  • Facilitate learning by administration and staff to create reports from student data for the purpose of improving instruction
  • Generate maintain and reconcile confidential student data for state and district assessments.
  • Support and review of student rosters for testing including accommodations and alternatives for special populations.
  • Create data extracts queries and reports using database tools (Excel Access Homeroom Skyward) to support schools and district programs.
  • Upload and maintain student test scores and growth measures in student information systems.
  • Provide and present accurate data reporting to support the districts monitoring of literacy and math growth attendance graduation readiness and other key performance indicators outlined in the Strategic Plan.

Assessment Support

  • Provide MVSD district-wide K-12 comprehensive overview of student data related to state and local assessments to the school board superintendent administration and staff.
  • Calibrate coordinate and communicate the use of comprehensive and interim assessments.
  • Provide central office building leaders and teachers with assessment data to inform school improvement efforts and instruction.

Strategic Plan Implementation Management and Monitoring

    • Community of Belonging & Engagement: Provide data on student attendance survey responses and engagement to monitor belonging.
    • Strong Foundations (TTK5): Support reporting on early literacy math proficiency and kindergarten readiness benchmarks.
    • Grade Level Mastery: Create accessible reports on proficiency and growth across all student groups with a focus on multilingual learners and students with disabilities.
  • Navigating for the Future: Maintain data to monitor 9th-grade on-track indicators graduation rates High School and Beyond Plan completion and FAFSA/WASFA submissions.
  • TTK-12 Intervention and Extension Evaluation
      • Before/After Summer and Credit Recovery School Programs
      • Intervention Programs K-8
      • Highly Capable Data collection and communication
  • Multilingual and Dual Language Programming
    • Provide longitudinal reports on students in the Transitional Bilingual Instructional Program (TBIP) and Dual Language Program
    • Support the Multilingual Office in analyzing trends for students in TBIP

Capacity Building & Staff Support

  • Provide training and documentation for teachers administrators and specialists on the use of data systems and reports.
  • Respond to staff support inquiries regarding Skyward Homeroom and other systems used for monitoring student outcomes.
  • Build staff capacity to analyze and use data to support students academic progress and engagement.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.

  • Participate in related professional development opportunities

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Certification

  • Masters Degree in Related Field
  • Washington state Principal Certification

PREFERRED EXPERIENCES AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bilingual Spanish Preferred
  • Three to Five years of experience working in K-12 education including the collection analysis reporting and use of large sets of data
  • Familiarity with student information systems and relational databases including ESD Qmlativ Skyward etc.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word Excel and PowerPoint
  • Working knowledge of Google Suite applications including Gmail Drive Docs and Slides
  • Outstanding communication skills including:
    • Demonstrated ability to prepare and deliver effective presentations to groups
    • Demonstrated ability to respond verbally and in writing with clarity and precision
    • Ability to use appropriate communication methods with individuals who are frustrated or stressed.
  • Ability to work effectively with people and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks with competing priorities.
  • Possession of a valid Washington State Drivers License.
  • Willing to work flexible and/or additional hours to meet the demands of seasonal high-volume special projects.
  • Ability to lift and move boxes weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to climb stairs sit and stand for prolonged periods of time and crouch bend and kneel.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.

  • While performing the duties of this job the employee will frequently sit stand and walk bend neck and back squat kneel and use hands for fine manipulation and repetitive grasping and pushing/pulling. The employee will occasionally be required to climb stairs/ladder lift and reach overhead and lift/carry. The employee must constantly lift/carry up to 5 lbs must frequently lift/carry up to 10 lbs and occasionally lift/carry a maximum of 20 lbs. The employee is occasionally required to push/pull a maximum force of 100 lbs.

Selection for interview is based on evaluation of complete application file. Employment offer is based on employee evaluations discipline history and attendance records training and experience references and interview results. Hourly rate placement contingent upon verification of related experience.

Employment contingent upon completion and verification of form information and background check with fee to be paid by applicant.
Pay for contracted classified employees is distributed once/month on the last business day of the month. Pay for employees who work less than full year is spread through August. Questions concerning pay processes may be directed to the Personnel Office.
