Job Summary

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

To lead in the coordination improvement implementation and evaluation of a Comprehensive (Early Childhood-12th) Guidance and Counseling Program Family Treatment Program Career / College Counseling District-wide Emotional Intelligence student development and AVID district-wide utilization. To seek apply and manage multiple grants such as Region One Gear Up and Mental Health SAMHSA grants. To ensure that an academic emotional intelligence and college and career readiness culture is nurtured from elementary on to high school.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling required

Texas Mid-Management Supervisors Certificate or Principals Certificate required

Valid Texas Counseling Certificate required

License Professional Counselor Certification preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Communicate effectively (verbal and written); utilize effective interpersonal skills; interpret data federal and state laws and policies; direct curriculum development process and program management to include budget and personnel required

Experience:
One (1) year of experience as a classroom teacher required

Three (3) years of experience as a school counselor required

Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in leadership role(s) preferred

Days: 226

Daily Rate pay range:

Minimum: $406.51

Maximum: $567.17

Note:Starting pay for a new hire in a pay range plan will be determined individually based on each persons job-related experience and salaries paid to peer employees in the same position with similar experience.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Keep informed about current legislation educational developments literature and research in Counseling and Guidance and Section 504 services by participating in state and national professional organizations; attend appropriate conferences and staff development sessions; disseminate professional information and materials to the schools.

2. Provide leadership and supervision for planning implementing operating and evaluating the guidance and counseling services of the district.

3. Lead in the development and implementation of a counseling and guidance curriculum Pre-K-12.

4. Provide staff development and on-site technical assistance to help counselors establish and implement a well-balanced comprehensive counseling and guidance program.

5. Conference regularly with counseling staff to discuss performance; jointly develop improvement goals and identify professional development and training opportunities.

6. Develop and implement a system for evaluation and acquisition of guidance materials including analysis of counseling program accountability data.

7. Direct a district-wide crisis response program including crisis management training for campuses.

8. Collaborate with teachers counselors administrators and other relevant individuals to provide information and programming as follows:

Early awareness for students and their families in terms of curriculum career pathways;

Completion of applications for college financial aid and scholarships;

Facilitation of college tours and visits to college campuses;

Facilitation of college entrance exams and appropriate benchmarks at various grade levels; and

Maintain a College/Career Center at each high school.

9. Support campus staff with issues related to Response to Intervention and Section 504 concerns.

with various district departments/divisions on issues relevant to Response to Intervention Section 504 counseling and guidance (Health Services Security Special Education Advanced Academics Career Technical Education Bilingual Department etc.).

on a regular basis with counselors social workers and parental involvement specialists regarding comprehensive campus counseling programs and information impacting a students social and emotional development graduation plans and college admission requirements.

a budget and provide assistance in purchasing career counseling and guidance materials.

grants including quarterly reports budgeting and resubmitting the yearly applications.

coordinate and maintain effective working relationships with community agencies and individuals who provide specialized services to include social and emotional services AVID career and college preparation for students and families.

professional competency through attending and presenting programs relevant to current issues.

district-wide College Readiness activities to include College Night for district high school students.

organize and/or conduct staff development sessions for administrators specific to the implementation of an effective comprehensive guidance program response to intervention section 504 and AVID.

campuses to survey specific campus and principal needs; monitor and provide support in the SBSDM process and the implementation of the section 504 Response to Intervention AVID and Guidance and Counseling Program on each campus; observe performance of counselors and campus coordinators others in order to gather data for program evaluation and refinement.

campus administrators in the recruitment and hiring of counseling personnel and AVID tutors.

campus administrators in the evaluation of job performance of counselors.

with policies established by state and federal law State Board of Education and local board policy.

the continuous enhancement of a climate conducive to open communication and productive work with schools and all other departments.

the immediate supervisor informed regarding the status on all projects or initiatives undertaken and or directives or requests received internally or externally.

to ethical and legal standards; use accepted theories and techniques appropriate to school counseling.

Supervise and evaluate the performance of Family Treatment Program Manager Director Secretary Prevention Intervention Specialists
