Software Developer (at the rank of IT Technician) in the Teaching and Learning Innovation Centre(Ref.: 533732)
The Role
- The appointee will join a small collaborative IT team to ensure our mission-critical services and platforms remain reliable secure and compliant with university policies. Key responsibilities include: Design develop and maintain databases and web applications (including APIs) and integrate with institutional systems.
- Provide hands-on technical support for staff and students: Windows/macOS desktops and laptops and common classroom/office applications.
- Server and network installation configuration and maintenance; account and identity management; backup monitoring and patching.
- Administer and update CMS-driven websites; ensure accessibility security performance and responsive design.
- Occasional Saturday and evening duties will be required.
Qualifications and Qualities
Applicants should have the following qualifications skills and attributes:
- Bachelors degree or above in Computer Science or a related discipline.
- At least 2 years of post-qualification experience preferably in the education sector in the following areas
- Web application development and maintenance:
- Back end: PHP (e.g. Laravel) Python (e.g. Django/Flask) or (e.g. Express)
- Front end: JavaScript/TypeScript HTML5/CSS3 Bootstrap
- Databases: MySQL/PostgreSQL and MongoDB;
- Windows Server and PC administration;
- Linux server administration and shell scripting (Bash); and/or
- Virtualization and cloud fundamentals backup patch management and endpoint security.
- Experience with CMS platforms (e.g. WordPress or Drupal) and web accessibility/responsive design.
- Experience with Adobe Premiere Cloud or video editing tools will be an advantage.
- Excellent communication skills professional attitude reliability and collaborative teamwork.
- Flexible able to work independently and meet tight deadlines.
- A good security mindset and awareness of relevant compliance and privacy requirements are expected.
What We Offer
The appointment will be made on fixed-term full-time contract for 2 years to commence as soon as possible with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 10% of basic salary. Other benefits include annual leave and medical benefits.
