Job Description Summary

The Certified Athletic Trainer (AT II) and Sports Performance Specialist reports to the assigned Sports Medicine leader and will be assigned to the Charleston Battery. The AT will serve in a dual role including Athletic Trainer and Sports Performance related responsibilities necessary for a professional soccer team. AT responsibilities include providing community-based point of service for sports related prevention care coverage and rehabilitation for musculoskeletal injuries and sports related ailments within a defined environment for professional athletes under the general supervision of the physician physical therapist physician assistant and or nurse practitioner. Sports Performance responsibilities include Sports Science Strength & Conditioning and Functional Assessments and Training as outlined by the coaching staff Charleston Battery and MUSC Health Sports Medicine leadership. Job includes local and travel responsibilities weekday and weekend schedules including practice and game coverage and pre- and post- event preparations and treatments. Offseason responsibilities include designing and managing rehabilitation and offseason training for players as well as cross coverage as needed for other MUSC Health affiliated teams.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

30% - Sports Performance ATC II responsibilities plus additional responsibilities as assigned.

Success Criteria:

Designing and implementing a sports performance program Assessing the progress and outcomes of the sports performance program on a monthly basis and provide reports to leadership Performing pre and post season functional assessments for all players as well as mid-season assessments as necessary or requested. Manage all Sports Science aspects for the assigned team and provides coaching and sports medicine team daily reports Work with medical team and coaching staff for functional and reintegration training for players recovering from injury

10% - Health and Wellness

Assists in organizing and pre-participation physical screening/assessments. Maintains documentation for PPEs Identifies concerns and refers to the appropriate health care provider. Establishes a program to monitor athletes health status throughout the year. Develops and Implements Sports Performance and Conditioning Program Successfully implements Injury Prevention program Monitors outcomes of the program.

15% - Attends assigned athletic events

Is punctual and professional in attire and behavior 100% of the time. Provides acute evaluation of sports-related injuries. Monitors exacerbation of chronic conditions requiring medical attention. Utilizes professional judgment to triage patients to appropriate level of care. Actively refers potential patients to MUSC services. Works collaboratively with the teams coaches and athletes. Acts as liaison between physician/physical therapist and coaching staff/team leadership. Communicates playing status of the athlete to MD PT and coach on a regular basis.

15% - Communication

Responds to electronic communication and meeting requests in a timely manner For injured athletes - sends information including patient history and MOI to the appropriate healthcare provider Consistently provides all required fitness sport science and medical reports to medical team and coaching staff Consistently manages schedule and ATC Calendar

15% - Assessment and Documentation

Selects and performs appropriate assessment procedures based on accepted practice standards. Assessment of general medical sports related conditions injuries and fitness to play. Refers to appropriate professionals to include orthopedic surgeon primary care physician physical therapist and other medical specialists. Documentation for referred athletes is completed on day of injury/referral in the ATC referral database/documentation system Documentation for non-referred athletes is completed on day of injury and updated regularly in ATC referral database/documentation system Accurately documents results such as special tests range of motion strength reflexes palpation visual appearance diagnosis treatment plan and playing status

15% - Treatment and Plan of Care

Is proficient with taping bracing padding for treatment of acute injuries and injury prevention. Proficient with on-field acute medical care management. Safely and appropriately administers manual treatments and modalities Is knowledgeable about prophylactic bracing and sports related Durable medical equipment. Develops a patient specific rehabilitation program designed to restore function after injury aid in injury prevention and enhance athletic performance. Appropriately refers patients to MUSC Sports Medicine services Coordinates return to play care and maintenance program with treating physician and PT

For every 100 additional pounds assistance will be required from another healthcare worker #2. 20 lbs. of force is needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. #3. 25 lbs. of force is required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand. Ability to maintain vision 20/40 corrected(C) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance. Additional Job Description

Graduate of an accredited college with a BS/BA. (Masters degree in Athletic Training preferred). Certification by the Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers (BOC). Licensed (or eligible for licensure) as an Athletic Trainer in South Carolina by the LLR. Sports Performance credentials including CSCS PES or other related credentialing. Must be able to adjust communication both verbal and non-verbal to interact appropriately and effectively with a wide variety athletes coaches and medical professionals.
