Purpose:
NatureScot needs to diversify its funding model and increase the scale of income generation and cost recovery across the organisation. Broadening our funding beyond our grant-in-aid is essential to support NatureScots mission to protect and restore Scotlands nature in the face of the twin challenges of the biodiversity crisis and the climate emergency.
We are looking for an individual with commercial experience and the drive and initiative to establish the Income Generation Roadmap for NatureScot. The role will lead on building the programme to achieve NatureScots ambition in this emerging area of activity. The role will support the Income Generation Steering Group in delivery of its mission. The role will also provide programme management support to the Nature Finance programme.
The role will work closely with the Income Generation Steering Group; the Nature Finance governance board; and business leads within the Extended Leadership Team (ELT). The role will also establish a network of contacts with other public bodies to maximise opportunities for collaboration as part of Public Service Reform (PSR).
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide programme leadership for the management promotion and delivery of income generation and cost recovery in NatureScot
- Develop NatureScots Roadmap for our commercial journey including required policy tools governance and guidance to support income generation in NatureScot
- Prepare and regularly review the Roadmap programme plan and report on milestones risks and issues to the Income Generation Steering Group (IGSG)
- Support the conclusion of the NNR car parking charging pilot and deliver next steps associated with wider roll out
- Work with business leads to co-ordinate/oversee the development of income generation opportunities within NatureScot
- Explore develop and make recommendations on potential mechanisms to enhance NatureScots ability to attract retain and invest new sources of income
- Capture and apply lessons learned from different income generation activities to support a consistent approach across NatureScot
- Lead on planning and delivery of communications to promote the programmes outputs
- Develop a network across other public bodies to better understand models for income generation trading & philanthropy that could be relevant to NatureScot
- Work with the Income Generation Support Accountant and other colleagues as needed to ensure that the programme management financial auditing governance and reporting requirements are fully met
- Ensure implementation of audit recommendations from the 2025 Audit Report on Income Generation & Cost Recovery
- Provide support to the Nature Finance Governance includes all compliance requirements ensuring good project and risk management and overseeing completion of reporting and assessment in place to support delivery of the programme.
Role Requirements:
- Demonstrable knowledge and experience in establishing commercial & business development opportunities.
- A flexible and confident approach to programme project and risk management with a proven ability to engage effectively with others to deliver results.
- The ability to plan and manage challenging workloads to work to deadlines to adapt to changing and often competing priorities
- Well-developed communication skills including the ability to communicate commercial information clearly and simply and to build trusted relationships at all levels to influence key stakeholders.
- Strong business acumen and analytical skills with experience in developing business cases new business models and revenue generation.
- Experience of change management including an ability to assess the effect of changes on the organisation and to identify challenges and make recommendations to resolve them.
- An understanding of NatureScots priorities together with an appreciation of the political environment in which NatureScot operates.
Pre-requisites Required:
- Driving license or other means of transport.
- Candidates must be eligible to live and work in the UK and resident in Scotland for the duration of the job contract.
- To undertake a Disclosure Scotland application.
- Although Gaelic language is not a prerequisite it is a desirable skill in support of our commitment to our Gaelic Language.
