We are searching for Staff Nurses for our NICU 4 Team! We are looking for someone who works well in a fast-paced this position youll provide quality nursing care to patients by assessing planning educating implementing and evaluating age appropriate care in a manner that incorporates family-centered principles and cost-effective care. We need someone who can collect and analyze data from the medical record in order to coordinate patient care.

ABOUT OUR NICU 4

The purpose of the Newborn Center at Texas Childrens Hospital (TCH) is to provide the full spectrum of comprehensive care tending to the clinical and psychosocial needs of all neonates and their families. Texas Childrens Hospital NICU holds the distinct honor to be the first recognized Level IV NICU in The State of Texas and recognized in 2022 and 2024 as the #3 NICU in the country by US News.

NICU IV offers the highest possible level of specialized treatments as well as expert specialists for babies born prematurely or with unique health challenges. It is located on the 4th floor of the West Tower and is an open pod unit with a few private isolation rooms. The open pod unit fosters teamwork and collaboration amongst the nurses. Babies admitted to this unit may have been born at the Pavilion for Women transferred in from other departments in our hospital or from hospitals across Texas and beyond. A team of NICU-specialized nurses providers respiratory therapists social workers child life specialists physical therapists occupational therapists speech therapists music therapists care coordinators and pharmacists come together to care for our patients and families.

TCH NICU IV RNs will be responsible for caring for critically ill neonates and infants requiring complex care and the highest level of support. Our teams provide complex medical and surgical care to patients with multiple diagnoses including but not limited to respiratory distress bronchopulmonary dysplasia pulmonary hypertension hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy gastroschisis omphalocele necrotizing enterocolitis congenital heart disease and other congenital anomalies such as conjoined twins.

We offer the latest cutting-edge standard in treatments and evidence-based practice in our Level IV NICU by embracing state-of-the-art technology to deliver the highest quality care. Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) Total Body Cooling (TBC) and Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) are just some of the exemplars of specialized treatments we provide in our Level IV NICU.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree in nursing or other degree in nursing with acceptance or current enrollment in a BSN program and signed agreement
  • Current licensure with the Board of Nursing for the State of Texas or Nurse Licensure Compact and BLS certification are required
  • 9 months of professional nursing experience
  • The ability to demonstrate positive and appropriate interpersonal skills good time and resource management skills flexibility strong oral and written communication skills knowledge of unit-specific equipment and knowledge of the nursing process critical thinking skills PALS and interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Previous NICU or ICU experience highly preferred!

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform and document assessments of the patient/family including biophysical psychosocial developmental cultural spiritual and environmental needs
  • Collect and analyze data from the medical record in order to coordinate patient care
  • Analyze situations anticipate potential problems and detect changes in patient status
  • Identify each patients needs pertaining to patient teaching discharge planning growth and development nutritional screening functional status and pain management
  • Develop an individualized plan of care based upon the nursing assessment and re-prioritize and change as necessary
  • Determine which standards of care and practice apply to the patient and coordinate among other health team members as appropriate
  • Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and/or patient care conferences
  • Execute therapeutic physician or nurse interventions according to established standards
  • Evaluate and document the patients response to the care provided and recognize their progress towards the desired outcome
  • Identify actual/potential barriers to learning and utilize various teaching strategies to overcome them as appropriate
  • Maintain confidentiality concerning patient/family issues
  • Act as a resource in educating new employees/team members
  • Participate in achieving hospital/unit goals structures and priorities
