Job Summary


Position Summary:

The Summer Camp First Aid Specialist will provide on-site minor medical care and manage the camps first aid program. Provides a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty respect responsibility and caring. Expected Camp dates are late May until mid-August and is a seasonal position where the employee will voluntarily separate at the conclusion of the season.

Essential Functions:

1. Provide on-site care observation and evaluation for sick campers and staff

2. Call 9-1-1 for emergency situations

3. Place the safety and well-being of the camper and staff as the top priority.

4. Promote a cooperative positive and problem-solving atmosphere at all times

5. Document and maintain records of all first aid treatment and attendance at the first aid station including reporting treatment to the Summer Camp Director and completing incident reports

6. Monitor camper medications as well as document and maintain records of all medications dispensed.

7. Must maintain confidential files of all camper medical forms and waivers as well as protect the privacy of campers.

8. Maintain camp first aid supply inventory as well as order supplies when needed.

9. Maintain positive interaction with parents campers and staff.

10. Conduct needed communication with the parents of campers regarding medical or health matters

11. Attends all staff meetings and training

12. Follow YMCA policies and procedures including those related to medical and disciplinary situations child abuse prevention and emergencies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or GED
  2. Preferred education/work experience in the healthcare field as a first aid specialist or equivalent.
  3. Minimum age of 21
  4. Ability to work well with a diverse group of children parents co-workers and adults.
  5. Experience working with children ages 5 to 13 years old
  6. CPR/First Aid certification or obtain within 30 days of hire.
  7. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of the community social and economic segments of the community.

  • Work will be performed indoors and outdoors and may require occasional travel
  • Must have visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to respond swiftly in an emergency situation.

  • Must be able to coordinate a variety of large and small tasks simultaneously
  • Must be able to handle stress and tension in a positive manner


Salary Description
$17.50/hour
