YOUR NEW ROLE

Start your career in live events with a paid internship at the Sydney Opera House. This may suit school leavers or those looking for an entry level opportunity. Gain hands-on experience in customer service and ticketing with a minimum of 90 hours of training and supported shifts across our box office and contact centre. Youll build transferable skills connect with the arts community and experience performances from a visitors perspective.

By the end of the internship you will have developed skills outlined in thisrole description.

ARE YOU THE ONE

• Applicants must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent identify as being an Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and accepted in the community.
• An interest in the performing arts.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills; plus a customer first approach to all tasks and situations.
• Organisational and time management skills with the ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
• Familiar with Microsoft Office.
• Good literacy numeracy and self-management skills of a level sufficient to complete the qualification.
• Ability to prioritise and balance work and other commitments.
• Enthusiasm and eagerness to learn and progress within the Performing Arts industry.

To be eligible for this internship applicants must:

• Have ideally completed Year 12 (or equivalent).
• Be willing to commit to the traineeship agreement of 90 hours (minimum) ideally undertaken over January and February 2026.

WHAT AN INTERNSHIP WILL INVOLVE

• Complete standard induction training and learning modules.
• Learn to use Tessitura software for ticket sales and customer service.
• Take part in on-the-job and observational shifts in the box office and contact centre.
• Deliver customer service for ticket sales and enquiries including payments and cash handling.
• Assist with ticket dispatch and general administrative tasks.
• Attend a tour or performance and review the experience from a visitors perspective.
• Review and reflect on skills and knowledge gained during the internship.
• Receive guidance on presenting your experience and transferable skills in future job applications and interviews.
