The Compliance Officer will be responsible for ensuring the Groups adherence to all relevant legal and regulatory requirements. This includes identifying compliance risks implementing controls advising management on regulatory matters and maintaining strong internal policies to ensure ongoing compliance with South African laws and regulations.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelors degree in law is preferred (BCom or LLB). A bachelors degree in Risk Management or an Internal Audit related qualification will also be considered.
- Knowledge of Environmental Health and Safety laws and regulations will be advantageous.
- Minimum of 2 years experience in a Compliance role.
Key Performance Areas
- Oversee compliance with Laws and regulations across all divisions.
- Develop and maintain the Regulatory Universe for all divisions and ensure implementation of compliance policies and procedures.
- Monitor regulatory changes in South Africa and selected African countries and assess legislative impact and assist with implementation of legislative changes.
- Develop and maintain risk management plans for high-risk legislation monitor and update compliance controls.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders on compliance matters and communicate regulatory developments to relevant stakeholders.
- Provide compliance training across all levels.
- Draft and present reports to the Group Audit Risk and Credit Committee.
- Report legislative breaches to Group Legal.
- Ensure compliance manuals are current and complete.
Technical Competencies
- In-depth understanding of South African regulatory frameworks and corporate governance principles.
- Strong knowledge of compliance risk management methodologies.
- Ability to interpret and apply complex legislation to diverse business contexts.
- Proficiency in drafting compliance documentation manuals and governance reports.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and presentation skills especially for executive reporting.
- High attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Proficiency in compliance management systems and regulatory tracking tools.
