VACANCY: Ground Operations Officer
REPORTING: Training Group Manager
LOCATION: Durban
Starlite Aviation Training Academy (Pty) Ltd has a requirement for a detail oriented physically fit and safety-conscious individual to fill a position as a Ground Operations Officer. The role will be based in Durban.
As a Ground Operations Officer you are responsible for performing operational services or duties related to pre-flight and post-flight preparations such as ground handling arrangements flight watch aircraft movements arranging fuel and aircraft documentation. You are responsible for the coordination and confirmation of services and resources in support of aircraft operation on the ground.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure that all aircraft leaving the flight line are serviceable (no snags no overdue maintenance no expired documentation) carry the necessary documents as per the SACAA regulations and return safely to base as per their ETAs.
- Ensure that all scheduled and non-scheduled maintenance is reported to the AMO without delay. You are the main communication element between the ATO and AMO.
- Oversee ground staff and ensure that they perform the following duties as per the SOPs:
- Move aircraft in and out of the hanger as per the flight program and otherwise required including movement of aircraft between the ATO and the AMO.
- Refuel aircrafts where and when required to do so normally after every sortie (Fixed Wing and Rotor Wing).
- Wash and clean all aircraft once per week.
- Maintain the garden and keep the areas outside the hanger neat and tidy.
- Keep the Hanger and surrounding areas clean and free of debris.
- Print weather check flight folios update AMP hours update aircraft serviceability report update contract hours display the flight schedule/ daily flight program update master hours.
- Ensure aircraft documentation is valid the fuel and oil requirements by flight crew are met and the red tag board is updated.
- Ensure that Part 141 and 127 Aircraft documentation is checked.
CRITICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy in a fast-paced operational environment.
- Physically fit and able to perform ground handling duties including lifting equipment moving aircraft and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Excellent organizational time management and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Effective communication in English (verbal and written) and any other additional languages.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to coordinate effectively with flight crew AMO personnel ground staff and management.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team with a proactive and results oriented approach.
- Commitment to safety quality compliance teamwork and continuous improvement.
- Willingness to work flexible hours when operational requirements demand.
- Reliable punctual and committed to safety quality and operational excellence.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
The following is essential for this position:
- Minimum Grade 12 certificate.
- Minimum of 2 years experience in ground operations aviation support or a similar operational environment.
- Experience in aircraft ground handling refueling coordination flight line operations or maintenance support (advantageous).
- Knowledge of SACAA regulations.
- Understanding of aviation documentation control aircraft serviceability requirements and maintenance reporting processes.
- Knowledge of aviation safety procedures OHS requirements and hazardous goods handling is advantageous.
