Job Summary

Introduction

The Attorney General is the chief legal officer of the State of Maryland. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has the general charge supervision and direction of the States legal business acting as legal advisors and representatives of the major agencies various boards commissions officials and institutions of State Government. The OAG also protects the public by civil enforcement of antitrust civil rights consumer protection and securities laws and regulations and by the prosecution of organized crime Medicaid fraud environmental crimes insurance fraud state tax evasion and other statutorily assigned matters. As Marylands 47th Attorney General Anthony G. Brown leads the Office with a critical focus on equity justice and fairness.

This position offers a salary range of $62220 - $87661 with potential for advancement up to $96790 over time based on longevity and increased responsibilities. Initial salary offers are determined by qualifications experience equity and available budget and will not exceed $87661.

Main Purpose of Job

The Office of the Attorney General is seeking applications for talented hardworking individuals to serve as an Outreach and Education Coordinator in its Executive Division. Working alongside two existing Outreach and Education Coordinators and a Community Affairs Coordinator this position will oversee the planning staffing coordination and execution of community-based events for the OAG bringing relevant publications resources and promotional items. The Outreach and Education Coordinator reports directly to the Deputy Chief of Staff and will work to support the outreach efforts of the Division central agency divisions client agency units and in some cases and the Attorney addition to supporting the Executive Divisions priorities this position will work closely with the Consumer Protection Division and other central agency units to staff coordinate attend and present at various community events conferences resource fairs expos etc.

POSITION DUTIES

Plan coordinate and execute community-based events including consumer protection workshops community forums expos conferences and educational seminars throughout the jurisdiction
Deliver presentations and public speaking engagements to diverse audiences on consumer protection issues including consumer fraud scams identity theft and other relevant topics affecting residents
Staff and represent the Office of the Attorney General at community events conferences town halls and public meetings to provide information distribute publications and engage with constituents
Create accessible educational materials that translate complex legal and regulatory concepts into consumer-friendly language for general audiences
Serve as the agencys language access coordinator as necessary
Coordinate outreach efforts across multiple divisions within the Office of the Attorney General ensuring consistent messaging and effective resource distribution
Build and maintain relationships with community organizations advocacy groups faith-based organizations schools businesses and local government agencies to expand the Offices outreach network
Provide bilingual outreach services (English/Spanish) to ensure accessibility for diverse communities
Track and report on outreach activities including event attendance materials distributed and community feedback to measure program effectiveness
Travel throughout the state as required to conduct outreach activities and represent the Office at regional events

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Three years of administrative staff or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to twoyears of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelors degreefrom a college or universityfor the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included the regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans policies rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the requiredexperience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will have:


Bachelors degree from an accredited four-year college or university and three or more years of relevant experience working in community outreach education or public engagement;
Bilingual proficiency in Spanish (written and oral communication);
Strong public speaking and presentation skills with demonstrated ability to deliver effective presentations to diverse audiences on complex consumer protection topics;
Experience coordinating and staffing community events conferences expos or similar public engagement activities;
Experience creating accessible consumer-friendly educational materials including brochures flyers fact sheets and infographics using Adobe Creative Suit Canva or other design software.

LICENSES REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operators license valid in the State of Maryland.
