Are you an experienced engineer with a deep understanding of tooling manufacturing processes and Design for Manufacturing (DFM) Do you want to influence product development from the very beginning and ensure that new components are not only functional but also economically and process-efficiently manufacturable We are a globally operating leading Tier 1 automotive supplier and were looking for a dedicated Tooling Engineer to drive the development and optimization of tooling systems and production processes. In this key role you will work closely with engineering teams OEMs and suppliers to develop robust cost-optimized and production-ready tooling and component solutions.
Key responsibilities Diverse and Impactful
- Provide technical oversight and qualification of new injection molds (Design Review DFM FAT SAT)
- Plan and conduct mold audits and acceptance testing at suppliers
- Support sites with maintenance repair and troubleshooting guidance
- Deliver training and coaching to site teams on mold care and failure analysis
- Regularly review and update Company Global Tooling Standard for mold design
- Work closely with the Process Engineer to optimize moldprocess interaction
- Collaborate with Engineering OEMs and suppliers to ensure new component designs are tooling- and process-feasible from the start (DFM).
- Drive cost-optimized tooling solutions that deliver consistent high-quality parts.
- Support supplier selection and evaluation including risk and Total Cost of Ownership analysis.
- Provide tooling assumptions for RFQs and support OEM negotiations with value-for-money inputs.
- Act as the key technical liaison between Product Design and suppliers coordinating CAE inputs and ensuring compliance with specifications and timelines.
- Attend tooling trials (T0 and beyond) monitor supplier progress and ensure all acceptance criteria are met.
- Manage Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and support commissioning and plant sign-off up to Job 1 90 days.
- Ensure complete documentation for tool and equipment transfer including drawings dimensional data spare parts lists and maintenance schedules.
Your Profile Skilled and Solution-Oriented
- Degree in Mechanical Plastics or Manufacturing Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in tooling ideally in automotive.
- Experience in mold design manufacturing and acceptance testing
- Knowledge of maintenance and repair processes for multi-cavity and precision molds
- Knowledge of mold function stack tolerances and manufacturing techniques
- Extensive experience with advanced injection molding technologies including twin-shot molding (2k molding) in-mold decoration / overholding (IMD/back injection molding).
- CAD proficiency (SolidWorks NX or equivalent)
- Understanding MoldFlow simulations
- Understanding Injection Molding Fundamentals; experience with Decoupled Injection molding/Scientific Injection molding is an asset
- Solid knowledge of automotive industry standards and processes.
- Proven ability to apply DFM principles and manage time-critical tooling programs.
- Confident in technical and commercial negotiations with suppliers.
- Structured working style and strong team spirit
- Strong time management communication and interpersonal skills
- Fluent in English and German (written and spoken)
- Willingness to travel within central Europe
