Job Summary

STV is looking to hire an Area Manager to drive strategic growth and market diversification across our Transportation Group throughout the Northern California region

Your new role:

As the Vice President Area Managerbased in Northern California you will be the second highest-ranking executive of STVs Transportation Group for the Southwest Region reporting to the Senior Vice President Southwest Region Manager. While the Area Manager will be expected to organize and lead STVs coverage of the Northern California market the scope of the Area Manager role extends geographically to include clients offices staff and opportunities throughout California and the Southwest Region.

Joining STVs Transportation West Group you will work closely with market sector leaders subject matter experts (SMEs) from our Centers of Excellence (COE) and other discipline leaders to deliver comprehensive architecture engineering planning and design services across the Southwest Region.

Our market sectors span transit corridor design systems facilities and planning. Under your leadership you will manage and oversee the continued growth and health of the Regions book of business the pipeline of opportunities and our people in addition to maintaining trust-based client relationships with key buyers of STVs design services. Under this role you will also collaborate closely with Market Sector Leaders on strategic hires to strengthen our mix of interdisciplinary planning and design services.

What youll be contributing to in this role:

Youll be accountable for planning and organizing the annual business plan and making the necessary operational decisions to achieve STVs desired strategic and annual outcomes for the Region. These outcomes will be tied to specific objectives and measurables for client relations growth project performance efficiency and talent development. The scope of the role will also include:

  • Representing STV with clients the industry and the broader community across California particularly with strong connections within the Bay Area and nearby regions.

  • Working with STV client service team leaders to ensure STV maintains and strengthens relationship with its clients.

  • Considering and making Go/No-Go pursuit decisions in collaboration with Marketing and Market Sector Leader input based on overall strategic growth goals

  • Maintaining close professional relationships with key people leaders within the transportation agencies teaming partners industry associations and community organizations.

  • Creating and implementing plans that align with and achieve STVs strategic plan objectives.

  • Scheduling regular client account check-ins with client account teams to align external engagement activities with specific pursuits and opportunities.

  • Identifying recruiting and developing talent with the aim of growing the business and ensuring a strong line of succession for key leadership roles in the operation.

  • Reviewing the scope cost budget risks and schedule for all contracts and agreements in the Region to ensure alignment of scope budget schedule and commercial risks prior to proposal submittal

  • Participating in contract negotiations with clients to ensure STVs business interests are reflected in executed agreements

  • Having responsibility to sign contracts amendments and task orders under STVs delegation of authority

  • Collaborating with Business Line Operations to review and sign off on project setup including revenue and cost budgets as-sold net margin and risk/contingency triggers

  • Providing effective management of STVs local business activities including selection of STVs client mix and services offering adding new clients winning new work execution of projects hiring locally based personnel resource planning and controlling overhead expenditure.

  • Ensuring the project management practices adheres to STVs policies and procedures.

  • Participating directly in strategic billable assignments aligned with the Regions business plans that have to potential to help STV break into new geographic markets or emerging service lines.

  • Analyzing and understanding client business and industry issues that potentially affect STVs business and preparing plans to position STV to capitalize on those trends.

  • Assessing the performance of the STV team members and taking action to rectify any shortfalls against expectations and to recognize and promote those of exceptional ability.

  • Developing strategies and solutions that address gaps in business processes operational oversight and portfolio management.

What youll need to succeed:

  • Market Experience: Have 15 years of experience in relevant Transportation market sectors (Highway Bridge Transit Aviation) with a proven track record in strategic planning business & client development operations & financial P&L management.

  • Educational Background: BS/MS in Engineering or Masters in Urban Planning or related Policy field

  • Professional Registration: Registered Professional Engineer (PE) or Planner (AICP) in Colorado (and preferably additional states) desirable.

  • Market Specialization: Youll be a subject matter expert in one or more disciplines such as highway design structural design hydraulics construction management planning or Transit.

  • Multi-Disciplinary Technical Leadership: You will be a proven leader of multi-disciplinary design teams including Project Managers Engineers Planners Construction Managers and Inspectors.

  • Business Growth: You will enjoy being both externally and internally facing driving new business optimizing relationships with existing clients leading proposals/pursuit strategies and leading a growing team of engineers and planners.

Compensation Range:

$182719.02 - $243625.36
