Our client a leading Manufacturing company based in Port Shepstone is looking to fill the position of Quarry Section Engineer.
Purpose of the Role:
The role is responsible for planning designing and overseeing the maintenance and upkeep of the fixed and mobile plant. The fixed plant includes the primary crushing conveying and stockpiling section as well as the 2 aggregate plants and support infrastructure. The mobile plant includes responsibility for the mining fleet. The role requires managing an engineering maintenance team as well as minor improvement projects. The incumbent will be responsible for OPEX and CAPEX budget management and performance management of the engineering team. This role requires a degree in Mining Engineering/Mechanical or Industrial Engineering with experience in maintenance management as well as leading a maintenance team. This is a senior position reporting to the Quarry Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operations Management:
- Oversee daily extraction operations manage equipment and ensure a steady supply of materials.
- Safety:
- Contribute to building the safety culture in the mine by enforcing safety protocols and ensuring participation of subordinates in the safety system.
- Implement and monitor health safety and environmental regulations to protect workers and the surrounding community.
- Project Management:
- Plan design and execute mining projects from start to finish.
- Technical and Logistical Oversight:
- Ensure that the quarrys processes are efficient and that equipment availability is within planned parameters and that company assets are preserved.
- Compliance:
- Ensure that plant and equipment are compliant with relevant Mandatory Codes of Practice as well as MHSA guidelines.
- The position will carry a 2.6.1 Subordinate Manager appointment in terms of the MHSA
- Team Development:
- Train staff on safe working practices and legal requirements.
- Planning and Design:
- Assist in short and medium-term maintenance planning coinciding with kiln shuts.
- Production:
- Monitor production performance and plan maintenance stoppages in conjunction with production lags.
- Budgeting:
- Track costs productivity and process improvements
- Innovation:
- It is critical that this position considers technological advancements and process improvements with the aim of reducing cost and improving plant performance.
- Reporting:
- Prepare and maintain engineering reports and plans
Qualifications and Experience:
- Matric/Grade 12
- SAQA-accredited 3-4-year Engineering Qualification in the field of Mechanical Mining or Industrial Engineering
- SAP MRP training or experience
- Experience with the Mine Health and Safety Act 1996 (Act No. 29 of 1996)
- Valid South African drivers license
- Computer literate
