JOB PURPOSE

Learning Guides facilitate experiences at OHS for K12 students during school tours. They create a welcoming inclusive environment where students of all ages feel a sense of belonging and know their voices are valued. Learning Guides greet and facilitate small groups movements through various spaces at OHS during self-guided tours and work with the Museum Educator to greet and move larger groups during guided tours.

Interviews will be conducted between 12/15 - 12/19/2025

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receive training from Museum Educator on museum policies and educational standards for tours; complete readings related to exhibition content.

  • Articulate and enforce OHSs school-tour policies and procedures to educators students and chaperones.

  • For self-guided school tours greet groups communicate policies provide short exhibition introductions to create context for students and frequently serve as the primary OHS staff lead and assists lead educator in following OHSs tour expectations by staying with the group for the duration of the tour; provide back-up in case of emergency.

  • For guided school tours undertake most of the same tasks as for self-guided tours while also moving smaller subgroups of the tour group through the building according to their tour schedule and bringing groups into and out of exhibitions where Volunteer Educators are providing guided tours.

  • Maintain direct communication with Museum Educator and/or Senior Education Manager regarding school tours including providing tour reports at the completion of each tour.

  • Facilitate discussion and reflection with small groups of K12 students (and occasionally college students) based on the exhibitions.

  • Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students and visitors.

  • Collaborate with the Senior Education Manager Museum Educator Volunteer Educators and other OHS staff to deliver and continuously improve the K12 class tour program.

  • Embrace ongoing learning and a culture of respectful feedback and growth.

  • Support the 2024 Oregon Social Science Standards by learning about inclusive Oregon history through training and materials provided.

  • Support OHSs mission vision and core values of creativity connection equity learning accessibility and accountability.

  • Contribute to support and promote institutional initiatives such as diversity equity inclusion and access goals and has a people first mindset.

  • Work respectfully and in a spirit of collaboration with supervisor and with OHS colleagues.

  • Maintain punctual regular and predictable attendance.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SCHEDULE

  • Work shifts available during Wednesday and Friday 10:30am - 2:30pm plus 2 hours weekly for prep and team meetings

  • Through May 11th

  • Hours per week: 10

  • Transportation to and from OHS is required not provided

RATE OF PAY

  • $16.30 / hour

REQUIREMENTS:
