Job Summary

SEN Teaching Assistant Preverbal Autism Support (Newham)

Full-time Long-term Immediate start

Were looking for passionate and reliable SEN Teaching Assistants to join a specialist provision in Newham supporting preverbal children with Autism (ASD) in a 1:2 model classroom.

Youll be part of a dedicated team helping children develop communication independence and social skills through structured routines sensory activities and visual supports.



Requirements

  • Supporting non-verbal pupils 1:1 and 1:2 in a structured ASD setting

  • Using PECS Makaton or visual aids to support understanding

  • Helping pupils engage in sensory and play-based learning

  • Working closely with teachers and therapists to track progress

  • Maintaining calm consistency and clear boundaries throughout the day


  • What were looking for:
    • Experience working with Autism preferably preverbal or early years SEN

    • Calm patient and proactive attitude

    • Ability to follow structured routines and use initiative

    • Reliability and commitment the children need consistency

    • Enhanced DBS (we can help with this if needed)

    Postgraduate qualification or accredited training in SEND (e.g. National Award for SEN Coordination Autism Education Trust dyslexia/SpLD or SEMH specialism).Proficiency in alternative/augmentative communication methodsMakaton PECS AAC using evidence-based interventions such as TEACCH SCERTS or Positive Behaviour in Team-Teach MAPA or similar de-escalation and safe-handling with assistive ed-tech tools and adaptive software
