Burlington School District is seeking one individual to join our Teaching & Learning team as the Associate Director of Teaching & Learning.

The Associate Director of Teaching & Learning provides the leadership necessary to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of curriculum instruction assessment and professional learning frameworks within the district. Works collaboratively with the Executive Director of Teaching & Learning and the Director of Curriculum to support the districts strategic planning and priority initiatives. Lead district school improvement planning and liaise with the VTAOE and BSD addition provides leadership to the student technology and multilingual directors as needed in support of student learning.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provides District leadership expertise and support for the design implementation and evaluation of a multi-tiered system of support that aligns with the District strategic plan.
  2. Collaborates with administrators to ensure a coordinated curriculum based on culturally relevant instruction.
  3. Collaborates with administrators coordinators and coaches to develop the Districts local comprehensive assessment plan.
  4. Supports the development of monitoring reports to communicate progress and identified needs to the School Board as assigned by the Executive Director of Teaching & Learning.
  5. Collaborates with the Executive Director of Teaching & Learning to articulate and disseminate a shared educational vision for the District.
  6. Provides input regarding priorities for professional learning and materials news as part of the instructional budget.
  7. Collaborates with the Executive Director of Teaching & Learning and administrators to design implement and evaluate professional learning for staff to meet the needs of all students.
  8. Coordinates building-level and district-level professional learning activities (e.g. PLCs in-service days department work days school/district teams for conferences and workshops) to foster a professional practice of lifelong learning and cultivate a growth mindset for all staff.
  9. Collects and analyzes data to identify and address professional learning needs throughout the District.
  10. Supports anti-racist schools by means of ongoing embedded professional dialogue and shared learning in partnership with the Equity team.
  11. Supports professional dialogue for continuous improvement of high-leverage teaching strategies to serve all learners (e.g. instructional rounds walkthroughs coaching cycles teacher mentor program).
  12. Supports and models the use of collaborative practice techniques to foster shared purpose and collective teacher efficacy as part of a district instructional framework.
  13. Ensures a comprehensive developmentally appropriate research-based curriculum consistent with the District policies and State and Federal policy guidelines.
  14. Works with administrators educators and teacher leaders (e.g. coaches coordinators tech integrationists and committee members) to ensure vertical and horizontal alignment for a coherent and coordinated curriculum.
  15. Provides leadership to administrators and educators in planning developing and refining proficiency-based learning throughout the District (i.e. clear and shared learning outcomes high-quality feedback strategies multiple ways to meet proficiency growth-oriented assessmentforlearning emphasis on learner autonomy explicit instruction and assessment of transferable skills).
  16. Collaborates with administrators educators and teacher leaders to develop and refine universally designed classroom practices (cf. Universal Design for Learning as part of our District MTSS Framework).
  17. Promotes mindfulness resilience antiracist and culturally responsive teaching to ensure safe and healthy learning environments.
  18. Works with administrators and educators in the research development selection and implementation of all PreK-12 instructional programs as directed by the Executive Director of Teaching & Learning. Provides piloting and adoption process that guides textbook and program selection and other instructional materials including technology subscriptions.
  19. Conducts periodic reviews of instructional practice in specific curriculum areas (e.g. early literacy secondary-level Math middle grades and other content areas) to ensure a coherent scope and sequence high-quality resources and research-based instructional practices.
  20. Coordinates with administrators and building-based Instructional Leadership teams to write and submit continuous improvement plans as required by the VTAOE.
  21. Supports administrators and Instructional Leadership teams in using data-informed comprehensive needs assessments for continuous improvement.
  22. Disseminates State and Federal guidelines and requirements relating to grant strategies and policy updates to administrators and staff as needed.
  23. Coordinates with the Data Team to conduct statewide testing and submit state-level reports as requested by the AOE. Ensures a comprehensive student data system is in place including information for student performance data local and standardized test scores and other requirements imposed by federal and state legislation.
  24. Serves as a liaison when appropriate with area colleges and universities on curriculum instruction assessment and teacher preparation issues.
  25. Remains current on trends developments and research in curriculum instruction evaluation and assessment.
  26. Performs any other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Teaching & Learning

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  1. Minimum Required: Bachelors Degree with a focus in PreK-12 Education
  2. Preferred: Masters Degree in Education Leadership or related field
  3. Certification Required: VT Educator Administrator License (Curriculum Director or Principal)

Experience:

  1. Minimum Required: 5 Years of Teaching Experience and 3 Years of Leadership Experience

  14. Familiar with federal and state laws and regulations that regularly govern education and continuous improvement in Vermont.
  15. Maintain character and personality that instill confidence and respect of students parents and colleagues.
  16. Demonstrate commitment towards professional growth and educational achievement for all students within the Burlington School District.
  17. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  18. Attendance in accordance with established days/hours of work.
  19. The Superintendent may find alternatives to the above qualifications appropriate and acceptable.

Preferred Qualifications:Experience with grants management and continuous improvement planning.

EMPLOYMENT BENEFITS/TERMS:

  • SALARY:Ranges from $100000 - $110000
  • BENEFITS:Benefits eligible on start date. 30 days to enroll in coverage from start Benefits!
  • PAID TIME:15 days sick 15 days vacation and 4 days personal time.
