Role Overview
The Software Distribution and Patch Management Specialist is responsible for deploying maintaining and securing software and system updates across enterprise environments.
The role ensures all systems are up to date with the latest software patches and configurations to maintain security compliance operational efficiency and system stability.
Key Responsibilities
Design implement and manage software distribution and patch management policies across servers desktops and endpoints.
Perform end-to-end patch lifecycle management identification testing deployment and verification.
Deploy and update operating systems applications and security patches using automation tools.
Maintain inventory and compliance reports of software and patch levels.
Troubleshoot failed deployments and coordinate with system teams for resolution.
Schedule and manage maintenance windows for patch rollouts.
Ensure compliance with information security standards and audit requirements.
Integrate patch management systems with endpoint protection SCCM WSUS Intune Ivanti or other enterprise tools.
Automate tasks using PowerShell Python or scripting tools for efficiency.
Work closely with IT Security to address vulnerability remediation and zero-day patching.
Required Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of patch management tools such as:
Microsoft SCCM / MECM / WSUS
Ivanti / ManageEngine / BigFix / Tanium / Intune
Red Hat Satellite / SUSE Manager / VMware vSphere Update Manager (for Linux/VMware environments)
Experience in software packaging and deployment.
Understanding of Windows Linux and macOS operating systems.
Knowledge of vulnerability management and security compliance frameworks (e.g. ISO 27001 NIST).
Scripting skills in PowerShell VBScript or Python for automation.
Familiarity with Active Directory GPOs and network configurations for deployment.
Strong problem-solving troubleshooting and analytical skills.
Excellent communication and documentation skills.
