Job Summary

At the edge of Batemans Pond stands the Warburg Library a magnificent space filled with light life and potential. Middlesex School is seeking a Director of the Warburg Library who will imagine what a 21st-century library can be: not only a repository of knowledge but a hub of intellectual curiosity connection and discovery.

The next Director will bring vision and expertise to reimagine this central space as a living classroom. Working closely with the Associate Head of School Academic Department Heads and colleagues across campus the Director will guide the library into its next chapter blending tradition and innovation to serve the next generation of Middlesex students.

This full-time administrative faculty position calls for a dynamic leader who loves the written word values scholarship and is inspired by the evolving role of libraries in independent schools today. The Director will oversee the daily operations of the Warburg Library administer and maintain its databases and curate its physical collection with care and discernment. The role includes managing the library budget as well as supervising and shaping the library space to create a welcoming and inspiring environment that encourages curiosity and collaboration. The Director will also champion emerging technologies that enhance learning and align with Middlesexs commitment to human insight and creativity.

As a member of the Academic Council the Director will provide essential support to the academic program and foster a culture of inquiry that defines the Middlesex experience. The successful candidate will be a strong communicator and thoughtful organizer who enjoys partnering with faculty mentoring students and imagining new ways a library can enrich the intellectual life of the school. A Masters degree in Library Science (or equivalent from an ALA-accredited program) is preferred as is experience in an educational setting.

The Director of the Warburg Library reports to the Associate Head of School attends faculty meetings serves as an advisor and contributes to the vibrant residential life of our boarding school community including participation in evening and weekend duty rotations. Middlesex offers a competitive salary and benefits package including robust professional development support.

Because Middlesex School is a residential boarding school this role may be housed on campus or be eligible for a $20000 engagement stipend for those not housed on campus.
