The Head of Quality Safety and Service Improvement is open to engagement regarding flexibility around location subject to reaching an agreement on a minimum level of availability at the Civic Centre Bray Co. Wicklow and/or for relevant HSE Dublin South and Wicklow-based meetings. QSSI will move to the Iveagh Building Carrickmines Dublin 18 in 2026.
There is currently 1 permanent whole-time vacancy available.
A panel may be created from which permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full or part time duration for the IHA Dublin South and Wicklow. The tenure of this role of Director of Nursing 4 Assistant in Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) will be indicated at expression of interest stage.
Purpose of the Post:
The post holder will provide clinical leadership for the service and contribute to the implementation of Irelands National Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance (iNAP) 2021-2025 and subsequent revisions and National Standards for Infection Prevention and Control in Community Services by:
Co-ordinating an IPC programme through the Healthcare-associated Infection and Antimicrobial Resistance (HCAI AMR) Committees in community services as directed by the IHA Manager or their delegate.
Engaging with the National AMRIC Nursing team to implement national IPC guidance and recommendations
Contribute to shared learning through Community and Acute Hospital IPC Networks.
Co-ordinate the National Hand Hygiene Train the Trainer programme across the IHA.
Keeping up to date with advances in the field of infection prevention and control and antimicrobial resistance so as to serve as a source of reference and guidance for peers colleagues and the public.
Contributing to local regional and national initiatives to increase awareness and knowledge of antimicrobial resistance within their professional group the HSE and the wider public including Sláintecare Enhanced Community Care programme Community response Teams etc.
Implementing the National IPC Link Practitioner Framework and regular engagement with IPC link practitioners
Co-ordinate the National Hand Hygiene Train the Trainer programme across the IHA
Supporting peers colleagues and the public in learning and implementing measures to reduce the spread of antimicrobial resistant organisms and infectious diseases
Contributing as appropriate to their role in the collection and collation of data on antibiotic resistance and antibiotic use
Support peers colleagues and the public in the transition to safer and better use of antibiotics by contributing to advocacy education and training.
Contribute as appropriate to research initiatives on the control of infection antimicrobial agents and efficacy of interventions including the role of the multidisciplinary team.
Promoting awareness of the One Health Concept both generally and with particular reference to antimicrobial resistance.
Working closely with colleagues nationally and in regional networks and provide cross cover of service for periods such as annual leave or other short-term leave.
Working closely with colleagues across all areas of care within the IHA (disabilities older persons acute mental health etc.) as required in line with agreed processes to ensure continuity of patient care.
Applying evidence based practice in developing and implementing strategies to reduce the risk of infection amongst patients staff and visitors based on national guidelines
Support the workings on the wider Quality Safety and Service Improvement Team and deputise for the Head of Service as required
