Attend on board vessels to perform sampling and testing of ballast and potable water witness loading operations write and submit reports. Incumbent will be required to prepare package and courier samples to different laboratories. Review calculate and interpret analysis results. Other duties maybe assigned when required.
Perform Field Testing of Water samples
Witness and observe how samples are taken and direct the vessel personnel when necessary
Receive inspect sort and label client samples
Deliver and ship samples to the Laboratory
Observe sampling of other commodities following established protocols
Sort crush pulverize split and screen samples as required
Archive return or dispose of client samples as per work sheet instructions
Log client samples into the system and prepare sample labels
Conduct basic testing and basic measurements in the field
Work from sketches detailed specifications and verbal instructions
Calibration and set up of equipment prior to analysis
Maintain and record equipment calibrations
Carries out routine equipment maintenance under the direction of his/her supervisor
Interpret and evaluate all results
Compiles data analyses and prepares reports
Maintain a clean working environment
Follow all company health safety and environmental policies
Follow all Quality system protocols and report any discrepancies to the Supervisor
May be asked to work in other SGS areas when needed
Some independent judgement required
Qualifications :
Education: High School Diploma (or equivalent) required
Post-Secondary Education (degree or diploma) in a Science related program (Chemistry) is a strong asset
Minimum 1-year experience in a related industry a strong asset
Good hand eye coordination when handling samples and various equipment
Must have a valid drivers License (Class 5 Minimum) or equivalent from another province.
Candidate must can use various types of computer software (word excel etc.)
Demonstrates good verbal and written communications skills
Ability to work well with others and independently
Works well under pressure
Must be able to read understand and follow work instructions in a safe accurate and timely manner.
