Overview
The Corporate Risk Manager plays a critical role in protecting the organizations assets and reputation through the strategic oversight of insurance programs and risk transfer mechanisms. Focused on healthcare-specific risks this position manages clinical and non-clinical insurance policies oversees claims supports compliance and ensures contract risk is appropriately mitigated. The ideal candidate has experience navigating the complex regulatory and liability landscape of the healthcare sector.
Responsibilities
- Manage the full lifecycle of the organizations insurance portfolio including professional liability (medical malpractice) general liability property cyber workers compensation auto and D&O/E&O coverage.
- Serve as primary contact with brokers carriers and internal stakeholders during renewals audits and policy placements.
- Oversee clinical and non-clinical claims collaborating with legal patient safety and third-party administrators to ensure timely resolution.
- Evaluate and recommend coverage enhancements or risk retention strategies based on operations expansion plans and evolving exposures.
- Participate in due diligence and insurance integration for acquisitions affiliations and joint ventures.
- Ability to counsel medical and non-medical staff on incident management insurance matters and litigation
- Review and negotiate insurance and indemnity language in provider agreements leases vendor contracts and managed care contracts.
- Develop and maintain a system for tracking claims COIs certificates policies deductibles and loss runs.
- Analyze loss trends and support safety quality and risk mitigation efforts across hospitals clinics and physician practices.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal insurance requirements.
- Assist with budgeting premium allocation and forecasting for insurance-related expenses.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Risk Management Insurance Healthcare Administration or a related field.
- 10 years of risk management or insurance experience in a healthcare setting (e.g. hospital system physician group healthcare insurer).
- Deep knowledge of healthcare-specific insurance lines particularly medical malpractice.
- ARM CPCU CPHRM or other relevant certification highly preferred.
- Understanding of regulatory and legal issues impacting healthcare risk.
- Skilled in claim management contract review and working with brokers and carriers.
- Proficient with risk management information systems (RMIS) and Excel.
