3rd Grade ELA Teacher Position - LISA WEST Elementary
Position Purpose Under the general supervision of the School Principal to facilitate student success and growth in English Language Arts skills through implementing district approved ELA curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress in reading writing speaking and listening; addressing specific literacy needs of individual 3rd grade students; and creating a flexible safe and optimal learning environment that promotes language development and literacy achievement.
Essential Functions
Develops and administers 3rd grade ELA curriculum consistent with school district goals state standards and age-appropriate literacy objectives.
Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group literacy instruction independent reading and collaborative learning activities.
Develops ELA lesson plans and instructional materials focused on reading comprehension phonics vocabulary development writing skills grammar and oral communication translating these plans into engaging learning experiences that maximize instructional time.
Conducts ongoing assessment of student reading levels writing abilities and language skills; modifies instructional methods to meet individual student needs including English Language Learners and students with special needs; provides targeted small group and individual literacy instruction.
Instructs students in reading strategies writing processes speaking and listening skills as well as principles of responsible citizenship and other subjects as specified in applicable laws and district procedures.
Continues professional development in literacy education reading research and elementary ELA best practices by attending workshops seminars professional meetings and staying current with educational research.
Organizes and maintains accurate record-keeping systems for student reading levels writing portfolios assessment data grades and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
Encourages parental involvement in students literacy development through regular communication about reading progress at-home reading activities and student achievements in ELA.
Establishes and maintains classroom management standards that support a literacy-rich environment and promotes positive behavior conducive to learning and academic growth.
Collaborates with other 3rd grade teachers and ELA specialists to evaluate curriculum effectiveness share best practices and participates in grade-level meetings faculty meetings and curriculum committees.
Selects and requisitions appropriate books literacy materials technology resources and supplies to support diverse reading levels and learning styles maintaining accurate inventory records.
Supervises students during school activities field trips and transitions ensuring safety and continued learning opportunities.
Administers standardized ELA assessments and district literacy evaluations in accordance with testing protocols and procedures.
