TheRole
TheManaging Editor / Editorial Specialist plays an important role in deliveringGFOs messaging to farmer-members industry and consumers by leading theexecution of the Ontario Grain Farmer magazine. They also provide editorialservices to the organization to develop additional publication pieces andensure copy is concise easy to read error-free is consistently messaged andfollows the organizations style and publication standards.
Yourday-to-day
Lead the planning and execution of theOntario Grain Farmer magazines nine annual issues including managing theeditorial calendar writing collaborating with the Creative Specialist onlayout and visual design and distribution meeting or exceeding timelines andgoals
Collaborate with communications teammembers to build relevant content for member communications across all GFOcommunication channels
Champion editorial excellence by writingfor the magazine CEO Executives and other teams as needed
Work with each internal department toidentify editorial opportunities for story-sharing with farmer-members throughthe magazine and e-newsletter
Manage the sourcing and coordination ofGFOs preferred freelance writers to ensure high-quality contributions to theOntario Grain Farmer magazine
Actively contribute innovative ideas toimprove the effectiveness of internal and external communications and add valuefor our farmer-members
Collaborate with industry partners by attending conferences and eventsto stay up to date on industry activity and build a network of subject-matterexperts to inform and generate story ideas
Ensure appropriate levels and layout ofadvertising for the print and online version of the Ontario Grain Farmermagazine in collaboration with GFOs Advertising Sales & SponsorshipConsultant and Creative Specialist.
Whatyou will Bring
Education& Experience
Collegediploma in communications journalism English or marketing
Experience in the Ontario agricultural industryin a member-focused organization is considered an asset
KnowledgeSkills & Abilities
Excellentwritten and verbal command of the English language with a strong sense of toneneeded for various audiences and communication channels (e.g. online printnews/media government speeches presentations reports etc.)
Demonstrated excellence in proofreading and copyreview ensuring grammatical accuracy consistency and adherence to editorialstandards and organizational style.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectivelyacross teams using strong interpersonal and communication skills to buildtrust foster respect and ensure editorial content aligns with organizationalgoals and messaging.
Capacity to contribute fresh ideas to improvecommunication effectiveness and align editorial content with broader organizational goalsand communication strategies.
Collaborative mindsetand willingness to work independently and as part of a team
