Reporting to the Superintendent Health & Safety and working a two weeks on/two weeks off schedule at the Ekati Diamond Mine the Senior Specialist is responsible for managing technical work and providing technical advice. This role assists and coordinates the environment personnel in the execution of sampling and monitoring programs and is responsible for the safety of these personnel working at the addition the Senior Specialist assists in the collection of data for regulatory reporting requirements works closely with other departments to coordinate operations oversees environment equipment management at the mine site and directs response to wildlife activity.
Lead the development evaluation and refinement of compliance and monitoring programsin accordance withregulatory requirements;
Overseethesite-based Environmental Specialists contractors and students. which includes but is not limited to orientations development andtraining;
Development and accountability for site-based work procedures health and safety procedures and risk assessments (e.g. Personal Safety Cards Job Hazard Analysis);
Manage technical consultants including the development and execution of field and office-based scopes ofwork;
Review consultant developed technicalreports;
Manage and report on project deadlines completion and budgets includingassistingthe head for budgeting ofequipment;
Support mining operations through the provision of technical and regulatoryguidance;
Supportpermitting ofnew developments and changes to existingdevelopments;
Participate in planning for water supply andmine wastemovement at themine;
Responsibility for entries to corporate risk and knowledge management system and reporting requirements forWSCC;
Primary mine-site Environment contact for mine operations (e.g. wildlife incidents water and waste management spill reporting);
Oversee equipment and materials inventory ordering andmaintenance;
Manageand activelyparticipatein sampling and monitoring programsin accordance withlicences; permits and agreements (e.g. Surveillance Network Program Wildlife Effects Monitoring Program Aquatic Effects Monitoring Program);
Familiarity with ArcGIS and GPS software (Basecamp Map Source) for mapping and GPS navigation; and
Oversee the use of firearms within the Environment Department at the mine site.
Bachelor of Science (.) or Engineering (.).
5-10 years direct or related experiencepreferablein mining.
Knowledge of regulations compliance monitoring and associated analytical techniques.
Supervisory experience is an asset.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience working in the mining industry experience working in northern Canada and an understanding of the northern regulatory environment.
The successful candidatehas excellent leadership and communication skills with a sound understanding of environmental programs. The successful candidate will be able to work collaboratively and interact respectfully with people from internal departments and external organizations.
