Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) ICU Step-Down

Location: Edison NJ
Shift: Nights 7:00 PM 7:30 AM 3x12-Hour Shifts
Schedule: Every other weekend required (Saturday & Sunday)
Holidays: Not required
On-Call: Not required
Float: May float within stepdown and medical-surgical units based on census

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced ICU Step-Down Registered Nurse (RN) to join a high-acuity cardiac and vascular step-down unit. This position does not require operating room experience it is a floor nurse role providing advanced telemetry and post-surgical patient care in a progressive care environment.

The RN will deliver evidence-based care monitor complex telemetry patients and collaborate closely with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess plan implement and evaluate nursing care based on patient needs.

• Develop individualized plans of care and modify them as needed throughout the patient stay.

• Administer medications monitor vital signs and manage complex telemetry patients.

• Provide care for patients with central lines tracheostomies and stable ventilators.

• Initiate and manage IV lines and ensure proper maintenance of all infusions.

• Accurately document care and assessments in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system (Epic or similar).

• Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care.

• Advocate for patient safety and support evidence-based nursing practices.

• Float to units within scope of competency as required.

Required Skills & Experience:

• Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience in Medical-Surgical/Telemetry in a major acute care hospital.

• Strong clinical background in MS/Tele nursing.

• Proficiency in:

  • Telemetry monitoring

  • IV insertion and management

  • Central line care

  • Medication administration

  • EMR documentation (Epic or similar)

  • Basic tracheostomy care and ventilator management

Preferred Skills & Experience:

• Ventilator management experience

• Post-cardiac surgery or post-surgical care experience

• Previous experience in cardiac step-down or progressive care units

Education Requirements:

• Required: Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN)

• Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Licensure & Certifications:

• Active New Jersey RN license or multi-state compact license required

• BLS American Heart Association (AHA) required

• ACLS American Heart Association (AHA) required

• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) required

• Telemetry certification required

• 4-Hour Stroke CEU required

Additional Information:

• OR experience not required this is a floor-based step-down unit position.

• Must demonstrate critical thinking adaptability and teamwork in a high-acuity environment.

• Excellent communication and patient-centered care skills are essential.
