The Executive Director of Student Support Services will oversee the District Special Education Coordinator (including Special Education Compliance District MTSS Program and more). Reports to Assistant Superintendent.

Minimum Job Qualifications:
- Masters degree or higher with emphasis in special education administration.
- Michigan Department of Education approval for Director of Special Education preferred temporary approval acceptable.
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with at least four years of successful teaching in special education
- Three years of administrative experience as a principal assistant principal supervisor or other district leadership role preferred.
- Evidence of active participation and leadership in professional organizations.
- Superior communication skills in writing and speaking.
- Collaborative leadership skills.
- Strong relationship building skills
- Experience working with diverse school communities
Responsibilities:
- Ensures all special education programs and services meet state and federal guidelines.
- Consults with staff parents and outside agencies.
- Demonstrates continuing awareness of effective instructional techniques and communicates this information to staff.
- Develops effective referral and service systems in support of LRE.
- Evaluates programs and services and implements changes as needed.
- Develops and maintains complete and cumulative individual records of all children receiving special services or enrolled special needs classes.
- Monitors staff caseloads and student progress.
- Conducts or oversees all IEPs including those for attendance suspension etc.
- Coordinates services of ECS students placed in out-of-district programs.
- Works cooperatively with building administration to ensure quality programs and supervision of building based special education staff.
- Directly supervises itinerant special education and non-certified staff.
- Assists building principal and/or evaluates special education building based staff as indicated.
- Recruits and makes recommendations to Human Resources concerning employment of special education staff both certified non-certified and 3rd party agencies.
- Ensures staff development activities enhance the effectiveness for programs and services for our students and authorizes participation of staff in such activities.
- Ensures federal state county and local policies are followed.
- Keeps current of related to federal state and any other rules laws or legislation affecting the delivery of special education services
- Works closely with the ISD MDE parents and the community
- Actively participates with state and county organizations for the improvement of services to students
- District 504 Coordinator
- Submits program documentation for approval applies for grants submits budgets and financial reports prepares and submits program reports to agencies
- Defines problems collects data establishes facts and draws conclusions
- Performs other duties as assigned
Salary & Benefits: $101766 - $115500 based on experience. Includes a full district benefit package.
