Job Summary
The NICU Director (Registered Nurse) is responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient-centered care through effective leadership oversight and management of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The Director is accountable for operational excellence including strategic planning budgeting staffing and compliance with all regulatory standards. This role fosters a culture of accountability collaboration and continuous improvement ensuring exceptional outcomes for patients families and staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and direction for the NICU ensuring alignment with facility goals and patient safety standards.
- Promote a superior clinical identity by implementing evidence-based practices that enhance patient safety quality and outcomes.
- Oversee staffing scheduling and competency development to ensure adequate and qualified coverage for all shifts.
- Monitor and manage variations in clinical practice to improve efficiency effectiveness and cost management.
- Ensure compliance with all internal and external benchmarks accreditation requirements and regulatory standards.
- Develop and implement policies procedures and best practices to promote optimal patient outcomes and regulatory compliance.
- Oversee patient throughput processes to ensure efficient admissions discharges and overall patient flow.
- Foster interdisciplinary collaboration and communication within and across departments.
- Provide leadership in achieving and sustaining an unparalleled patient and family experience.
- Support professional development and mentorship for nursing and support staff.
Qualifications
- Education:
- Bachelors Degree or other approved education plan required
- Bachelors Degree in Nursing preferred
- Masters Degree preferred
- Licensure/Certifications:
- Current RN license in the state of Texas or active compact license (in accordance with applicable laws and regulations)
- BLS required
- ACLS preferred
- NRP FHM and/or RNC-OB certifications preferred
- Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in healthcare required
- Minimum 3 years of leadership experience in a NICU Director role required
- Must be a current NICU Director with proven success in leading a high-acuity neonatal unit
