Responsibilities
About the Role
As a Harm Reduction Volunteer youll play a key role in supporting people to make positive informed choices about their health and wellbeing.
Working alongside our dedicated team youll help provide vital support that can truly change lives.
What Youll Be Doing
Providing Support and Resources
- Deliver essential harm reduction interventions to people who use our services
- Distribute lifesaving equipment and information to help service users protect themselves
- Provide access to Needle and Syringe Programmes ensuring clean equipment is available and used safely
Raising Awareness and Education
- Engage with people who inject drugs about the benefits of Naloxone (the overdose reversal medication)
- Promote HIV and Hepatitis testing through Dry Blood Spot Testing
- Share vital safer sexual health information and advice
- Educate service users on harm minimisation strategies
Connecting People to Support
- Encourage service users to explore treatment options available through our service
- Provide information about pathways into recovery
- Signpost and refer individuals to other support services that meet their needs
- Act as a bridge between service users and the help they need
Community Outreach
- Build relationships with people in local communities
- Offer non-judgmental information advice and practical interventions
- Work proactively to create safer public spaces through the responsible collection and disposal of used injecting equipment
- Help reduce drug-related harm in neighbourhoods across Birmingham
Location
This volunteer role is available across all of our hubs throughout Birmingham.
Your placement will be determined by service need but well always take your location preference into account and work with you to find the best fit.
