The Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE in Freiburg is Europes largest solar research institute. Our approximately 1400 employees work toward a sustainable economical secure and socially equitable energy supply system based on renewable energies. We contribute to this goal with our research priorities in energy supply energy distribution energy storage and energy use. Through outstanding research results successful industrial projects spin-offs and global collaborations we are shaping the sustainable transformation of the energy system. In the group Interconnection Technology we work on the interconnection of crystalline silicon solar cells. We develop and optimize the manufacturing processes and evaluate new materials. Our development priorities are higher efficiencies more cost-effective manufacturing processes and materials improved long-term stability and new products. Do you want to actively help shape the energy transition and complete an internship in this field With us youll find the experts and the right environment to achieve these goals. Besides the state-of-the-art interconnection of solar cells there is the so-called shingled interconnection where narrow solar cell strips are interconnected with each other. This interconnection technology enables a maximization of the active solar cell area by overlapping the solar cells which are electrically and mechanically connected with a conductive adhesive. The cuttingof the solar cells into the corresponding shingles represents an essential process step in which the cutting process is achieved by laser cutting while minimizing the cutting losses. Process development and optimization enable a precise execution of the laser process in the interplay between high throughput and quality as well as low breakage and damage to provide high-quality shingles for the construction of PV modules. For our group Interconnection Technology we are looking for a student to join as soon as possible for a voluntary internship or a mandatory internship.
