Department Summary

Unit Summary:
The Academic Residential and Research Initiatives Unit is a partnership that leads the first-year residential curricular experience for students at UO. The initiatives include the network of Academic Residential Communities (ARCs) Residential Communities (RCs) Faculty-in-Residence and Faculty Fellows positions and residential tutoring and advising. These interdivisional academic programs strategic partnerships and integration of Oregon Rising goals enable the unique integration of high-impact practices into the residential first-year experience along with supporting students in their transition into the upper division curricular experience.

WiSM ARC Seminar Overview:
The WiSM ARC is a dynamic community designed for students exploring careers in science math and related fields. Participation in this community helps students cultivate meaningful relationships with like-minded peers and build a supportive close-knit community of students interested in science and math.

As part of the WiSM ARC students enroll in a seminar exploring the intersection of science well-being society and gender. This two-term sequence offers students the opportunity to meet campus professionals and network engage with undergraduate research develop scientific thinking and communication skills and understand the societal implications of scientific advancements. The seminar is complemented by a series of co-curricular events to further the community connections and sense of belonging among students. These include programming within Unthank Hall study sessions with a peer mentor field trips to the Pine Mountain Observatory opportunities to meet with ARC Alumni and more. The Program Coordinator will play a crucial role in assisting with various aspects of the course and designing and executing cocurricular events.

Position Summary

The Program Coordinator for the Women in Science and Math Academic Residential Community (WiSM ARC) plays a central role in cultivating a supportive and academically engaging living-learning environment for students interested in science math and related fields. Reporting to the ARRI unit and in partnership with the Faculty Director the Program Coordinator leads cocurricular programming supports community cohesion and manages the operational aspects of the WiSM ARC.

The coordinator is responsible for recruitment and admissions efforts event planning and implementation student outreach and communications and collaboration with Residence Life academic partners and University Housing. This position also manages student enrollment processes and co-facilitates various aspects of the ARC seminar and related programming. As a student-facing role the Program Coordinator provides inclusive support to ARC students and represents the community across campus partnerships.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
One year of experience planning and coordinating programs or events in a higher education student services or community-based setting.
One year of experience performing administrative responsibilities including planning organizing evaluating and managing multiple projects and activities simultaneously.
Experience working with college students or adolescents in a mentorship advising or programming capacity.

Professional Competencies

Demonstrated commitment to diversity equity and inclusion and the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Strong written and verbal communication skills including comfort with public speaking.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced student-centered environment.
Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

Masters degree in education student affairs natural sciences mathematics or a related field.
Experience with financial management and report building
Experience supporting students who are pursuing academic paths in science or math disciplines.
Familiarity with university systems such as StarRez Navigate or other student information systems.
Experience managing program budgets and coordinating with faculty and campus stakeholders.
