Purpose

The Parking Enforcement Officer administers all parking andabandoned vehicle regulations facilitates vehicle turnover to create accessand provides accurate parking-related information and customer service to thepublic.

Essential Functions

Parking Enforcement and Patrol

  • Enforce parking regulations through the identification of illegally parked and abandoned vehicles; provide customer education and coaching issue citations relocate vehicles and initiate towing operations.
  • Patrol assigned areas by vehicle or on foot to ensure compliance with existing parking ordinances; create patrol strategies of assigned areas to maximize safety and efficiency using the Global Positioning System (GPS) or other locational systems.
  • Enter and retrieve data pertaining to vehicle registration identification location and status using a hand-held computer cell phone and related applications License Plate Recognition System (LPR) two-way radio and/or laptop.
  • Create and maintain complete and accurate records including digital and handwritten notes and photographs for all citations warnings and vehicle tows and relocations.

Customer Service and Parking Related Control

  • Provide accurate and responsive service related to customer and aldermanic parking complaints.
  • Provide information to the public regarding parking regulations and facilities and the location of streets buildings and points of interest.
  • Report parking and other violations to the Milwaukee Police Department (MPD) and assist in the investigation of abandoned vehicles and the recovery of stolen vehicles.
  • Respond to subpoenas and testify in court relative to contested traffic citations.
  • Monitor special event parking and assist with parking occupancy studies meter hooding and sign placement; report meter defects or malfunctions.
  • Provide traffic control at crash or incident scenes and provide written incident reports.
  • Observe and report hazardous conditions such as missing or broken traffic signals or signs and street markings that need to be repainted.

Conditions of Employment

The Parking Enforcement Officer must be willing and able todo the following:

  • Work any shift including weekends and holidays and/or rotating shifts when needed.
  • Work outdoors from an assigned vehicle or foot patrol in various weather conditions.
  • Lift and move objects weighing 50 pounds or more occasionally up to 20 pounds frequently and up to 10 pounds consistently.

Required pre-employment tests include the following:

  • Physical Exam with lift test
  • Vision Exam
  • Audio-Gram

Minimum Requirements

  1. One year of full-time work experience performing frontline customer service or serving in a safety or security role.
  2. Valid drivers license at the time of application throughout the selection process and throughout employment.
  3. Good driving record at time of application throughout the selection process and throughout employment. Driving record will be checked during the selection process prior to the job offer and throughout employment.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may beconsidered.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Associate degree in criminal justice or a closely related field from an accredited college or technical college.
  • Prior work history involving data entry.

  • Ability to learn recognize and identify vehicle makes and models.

  • Ability to remain calm and react appropriately when working in stressful and sometimes emotionally charged situations to ensure the safety of yourself and the public.

Current Salary

The current starting salary (Pay Range 5DN) is$49184annually ($23.64 hourly) and the City of Milwaukee resident incentive startingsalary is$50659 annually ($24.36 hourly).Appointment will be madein accordance with the City of Milwaukee Salary Ordinance.
