Role Purpose
The IBDP Theatre Teacher will be responsible for delivering the IB Diploma Theatre curriculum fostering creativity performance skills and critical understanding of theatre as a global art form. The teacher will mentor students in performance directing design and research guiding them to become reflective artists and thinkers.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning
Plan and deliver engaging inquiry-based lessons in accordance with the IBDP Theatre curriculum.
Facilitate learning across the key components: Performance Theatre Theory and Research Investigation.
Guide students through IBDP assessment tasks including the Solo Theatre Piece Directors Notebook and Collaborative Project.
Encourage exploration of world theatre traditions and diverse performance practices.
Support students in devising original performances and reflective documentation.
Incorporate technology and stagecraft into creative learning experiences.
Student Development & Enrichment
Mentor students in performance techniques directing and theatre design.
Organize and direct school theatre productions performances and festivals.
Encourage participation in co-curricular and cultural events.
Provide feedback and support to help students grow as confident performers and creators.
Curriculum & Assessment
Develop and review units of work aligned with IB philosophy and objectives.
Design and implement fair transparent and consistent assessment methods.
Track and record student progress in accordance with IBDP guidelines.
Prepare documentation for internal and external moderation.
Collaboration & Professional Growth
Collaborate with Performing Arts and IBDP faculty on interdisciplinary learning.
Participate in departmental planning meetings and training sessions.
Stay updated with developments in theatre pedagogy and international education.
Contribute to the creative and cultural life of the school community.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
Bachelors or Masters degree in Theatre Arts Drama Education Performing Arts or a related discipline.
Minimum 35 years of teaching experience ideally in IBDP Theatre or secondary-level drama.
Strong understanding of the IBDP Theatre curriculum and assessment structure.
Experience directing or producing school or community theatre performances.
Excellent communication classroom management and interpersonal skills.
Desirable
IB Category 1 or 2 training in Theatre.
Experience teaching or assisting in Cambridge / international curricula.
Knowledge of technical theatre elements (lighting set costume or sound design).
Background in acting stage management or theatre production.
Experience in multicultural or international school settings.
