The Associate Director of Programs and Initiatives oversees current and new co-curricular civic engagement programs of the BSLCE. Current programs include large campus-wide initiatives such as the annual Fair Trade Fair; the annual BUIILD (Bentley Unites to Improve International Livelihood and Development) fundraising campaign for global development projects; the annual Friendsgiving Farmers Market; BSLCE World Days (multiple days each year attached to the UN Sustainable Development Goals on issues such as Womens Rights Hunger and Poverty and Sustainability) the annual Business for the Greater Good Fair; and many others. Future initiatives are proposed created and innovated by the Associate Director of Programs in coordination with the Centers Executive Director and top student leadership.

The Associate Director of Programs and Initiatives leads and/or assists in overseeing current and creating new professional development trainings for BSLCE student leaders. This includes being the main BSLCE staff member overseeing our essential Student Committee Structure (8 committees with approx. 35 students) to move forward the Centers 1) Civic Events; 2) Diversity Equity Inclusion and Justice work; 3) Social Entrepreneurship crossover work with the new Bentley Social Innovation Incubator; 4) Special Events and Professional Development Opportunities for student Program Managers.

The Associate Director of Programs and Initiatives is charged with expanding on current alternative break trip programs; international service-learning programs (ISL); the campus-side #BentleyVotes registration drive and corresponding events; and helping with oversight of the Bentley Service-Learning Certificate program. Additionally this person helps to design and coordinate annual and special events central to the BSLCEs mission which may include the BSLCE Community Partner Luncheon; Open House and Admitted Students Day; Program Manager Training; Academic Session: and conferences and gatherings of local regional national and international social change organizations.

Essential Duties

  • The Associate Director of Programs and Initiatives may be asked to assist with payroll for student workers reporting to the Director on this task. This person also co-coordinates Brightspace course sites course materials course reflection papers and course grading that supplement the learning of hundreds of 4th-credit and embedded students each year. Works in partnership with the Senior Associate Director of Academic Programs and reporting to the Director.

  • The Associate Director of Programs and Initiatives may have responsibility for representing the BSLCE and Bentley on a variety of campus committees relevant to the civic engagement work of the BSLCE. This person may also help to represent the BSLCE and Bentley in on- and off-campus forums workshops and conferences; and to work with the other Directors to design and implement program evaluation; technology advancement; and report generation.

  • BSLCE is an all-hands-on-deck center and the Associate Director will be expected to support at all turns whether with Open House and Accepted Students Day; BSLCEs Committee Retreat and Program Manager Training each semester; the CORI check process at the beginning of each semester to ready hundreds of students for their community partner work; visioning of the Centers future; creating and sometimes maintaining the Centers complex calendar; contributing key items and reports at weekly Staff Meetings; etc.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree and 3-5 years of experience working with community agencies and/or student populations.

  • Detail-oriented highly organized excellent communication skills and ability to design training sessions for students involved in service-learning and our civic engagement initiatives.

  • Advanced knowledge of various academic disciplines and prior work experience working with faculty from multiple academic disciplines.

  • Strong public presentation skills.

  • Experience and skill with running small meetings.

  • Must be able to effectively manage relationships with several constituencies in both on and off campus settings (i.e. students faculty community organizations staff and clientele).

  • Must have ability to gain detailed knowledge of needs and interests of community sites in order to negotiate and manage.

  • Must be proficient in use of PC-based computer programs including Microsoft Office Canva and Internet navigation.

  • Familiarity with program assessment tools and applications

Work Environment

  • Typical office setting with extensive sitting and computer work.

  • Ability to travel around campus for meetings and other work related events.

  • Some ability to help move light furniture and assist with events.

  • This position requires full-time in-person attendance on campus during the academic year. Candidates must be able to commute daily and work collaboratively on-site with the team.
