Job Summary

POSITION TITLE:Bus Monitor

The Preschool Bus Monitor ensures the safe and orderly transportation of preschool students to and from school. The Monitor assists students while boarding riding and exiting the bus provides supervision to maintain safety and appropriate behavior and supports the driver in maintaining a positive and secure environment for all passengers.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist the bus driver with the safe loading and unloading of preschool students at designated stops and schools.
  • Secure each child in an appropriate car seat or booster seat.
  • Maintain constant supervision of students while on the bus to ensure safety and appropriate behavior.
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with students parents/guardians school staff and the bus driver.
  • Assist students with special needs including mobility assistance equipment handling and behavioral support as needed.
  • Ensure that aisles are clear and that safety procedures are followed at all times.
  • Report any safety behavioral or medical concerns to the driver and/or supervisor immediately.
  • Assist in emergency evacuation drills and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information in compliance with district policy and applicable laws (e.g. FERPA).
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

REPORTS TO:

Student Services Director

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Up to 15 hours per week (1.5 hours in the a.m. and 1.5 hours in the p.m.)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience working with young children preferred especially in an educational or childcare setting.
  • Training in child behavior management or first aid/CPR preferred (may be required after hire).
  • Patience compassion and the ability to work effectively with preschool-aged children.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and calmly in stressful situations.
  • Understanding of child safety and transportation regulations.
  • Ability to lift carry or assist children as needed (up to 40 lbs).
  • Dependability and punctuality in adhering to bus schedules.

SALARY:

$16.84 per hour
