Job Summary:
The Director of Student Engagement leads efforts to enhance the student experience by designing and implementing programs that support student development transition involvement and leadership. This role oversees new student Orientation and Welcome Week manages the recruitment and training of student leaders management of Registered Student Organizations Student Government Association and collaborates with campus partners on student development initiatives across the campus. Additionally the position plays a central role in major campus traditions and recognition events and contributes to co-curricular development.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Plan advertise and direct Orientation and Welcome Week programs in the spring and fall semester.
  • Recruit train supervise and provide leadership to the First Year Mentors (Orientation Leaders).
  • Serve on the committee for the COLL 133 Foundations course and assist in curriculum development and administration of the class.
  • Serve as a liaison between Admissions and Student Experience regarding Quest Days and other new student recruitment events.
  • Facilitate the administration recruitment and delivery of leadership development programming.
  • Oversee registered student organizations including administrative tasks advising support account management and training.
  • Develop and maintain supportive relationships with advisors for student organizations and serve as a resource for those individuals.
  • Advise Student Government Association.
  • Lead the planning and execution of Hey Day the annual campus/community involvement fair.
  • Co-Chair the Annual Night of Recognition Committee an event to recognize the accomplishments of our student organizations and leaders.
  • Plan annual Fall Formal program as part of Homecoming.
  • Perform job duties in accordance with Columbia Colleges vision mission and values and contributes to the development of the Student Experience Department.
  • Prepare and submit the relevant budgets annually.
  • Attend major college functions including but not limited to Homecoming Quest Days Welcome Week College Visitation events Ivy Chain Late Night Breakfast and Student Experience Night of Recognition.
  • Serve on division and college committees as requested.
  • Perform other job duties and responsibilities as assigned in accordance with Columbia Colleges vision mission and values and contributes to the development of the Division of Student Experience.
  • Use effective communication techniques during individual participant meetings with staff and community members and with various modes of technology.
  • Practice superior customer service.
  • Display respect and civility to all constituencies in all communications.
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility: Yes - Campus Activities Coordinator Student Employees (First Year Mentors and Office Assistants).
Position reports to:Senior Director of Student Life
Required Core Competencies and Professional Experience:
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience in student activities leadership development teaching/advising program planning and/or event management wellness and prevention.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning large-scale events including: communication with various stakeholders experience with developing marketing pieces and arranging all of the necessary logistics to deliver a success event.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising college students and working with them to plan events.
  • Keen attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Must be able to work independently and exercise excellent judgement.
  • Proficiency with the following but not limited to: active listening; speaking; writing; critical thinking; judgment and decision making; monitoring; reading comprehension; time management; coordination; and management of personnel resources.
  • Proficiency for using a variety of computer and technology-related software and equipment including Microsoft Office products and database systems.
  • Proficiency in using web-based technologies including database systems.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with or without direct supervision.
Required Level of Education: Masters degree in Student Experience Education Counseling or related field.
Other Requirements:Ability to satisfy within the parameters set by the College and consistent with applicable federal state and local laws a criminal background check as a condition of employment.
Special Requirements (if any):
  • Varied work hours including evenings and weekends.
  • Valid Drivers License and ability to pass the Drivers background check.
  • The employee must be able to lift and carry at least 25lbs.
