The School District

Nechako Lakes is situated on the traditional unceded territories of fourteen First Nations encompassing the Dakelh Neduten and Wetsuweten peoples. The school district encompasses five municipalities the Districts of Fort St James and Vanderhoof and the Villages of Fraser Lake Burns Lake and Granisle. This large area served by our school district has a population of just under 40000 residents in the beautiful north central BC.

We serve 3000 students in our standard schools and approximately 900 FTE at EBUS Academy one of the largest online schools in British Columbia. Our region has affordable housing welcoming communities and a lower cost of living than many other regions. About the Position:

This program will provide additional support for Indigenous grade 9-11 students to enhance their achievement in senior Math courses. The teacher will host two 90-minute sessions per week after school during which time students will build algebra skills explore complex concepts and apply Mathematics to real life situations. This is intended to be a low pressure and joyful experience for those involved.

Qualifications:

  • Possesses or is eligible for a BC Teaching Certificate.
  • Has training and/or evidence-based successful experience teaching students with diverse academic and social- emotional needs.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with the BC curriculum including core competencies and current reporting standards.
  • Has experience in identifying essential learning outcomes related to numeracy and in selecting and implementing assessment strategies with an emphasis on the systematic implementation of formative assessment strategies.
  • Previous experience with implementing instruction that is based on current best practices for Mathematics.
  • Has demonstrated success in working with colleagues in the planning and delivery of numeracy curriculum with an emphasis on curricular competencies across the senior grade levels (10-12).
  • Has demonstrated effective classroom management skills.
  • Has demonstrated ability and willingness to develop and maintain a positive classroom environment.
  • Has proven interpersonal skills necessary for building open and constructive mentoring relationships with colleagues.
  • Is highly motivated and able to work with children in a positive and consistent manner.
  • Possesses a valid driving license and has vehicle access for in-district travel as required.
