JOB TITLE: General Helper
Evening Shift - Part Time
EXEMPT: No
GRADE: 105
LOCATION: Maintenance Department
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 9-Month
REPORTS TO: Custodial Supervisor
SUMMARY: The job of General Helper is done for the purpose(s) of assisting the custodians in maintaining an attractive sanitary and safe facility; providing adequate arrangements for meetings classroom activities and events; and minimizing property damage loss and liability exposure.
SUPERVISES: None
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma GED or equivalent
- Social Security Card
- Proof of immunity to Measles and German Measles
- Valid picture ID
- Fingerprint/background clearance (upon employment)
Such alternatives to the above required & preferred qualifications as the Superintendent/Designee may find appropriate and acceptable
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Arranges furnishings and equipment for the purpose of providing adequate preparations for meetings classroom activities and events
- Assists custodians playground assistants crossing guards etc. as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities
- Cleans school facilities (e.g. classrooms offices restrooms grounds etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary safe and attractive environment
- Informs students other site personnel and supervisor for the purpose of providing information regarding activities safety and/or proper maintenance of facilities
- Maintains supplies equipment vehicle etc. for the purpose of ensuring the availability of required items
- Requests equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of items as needed to properly maintain facilities
- Responds to emergency situations (e.g. injured student broken window fights etc.) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns
- Evaluates situations (e.g. involving other staff students parents the public etc.) for the purpose of taking appropriate action and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution
- Perform such other duties and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent/Designee
SKILLS KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Skills are required to perform single non-technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: a variety of position-specific skills.
Knowledge is required to perform basic math understand written procedures write routine documents and speak clearly; and understand multi-step oral and written instructions. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: various position-specific information learned on-the-job.
Ability is required to schedule activities; collate data; and consider a wide variety of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing specific defined processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with specific job-related data; and utilize specific job-related working with others problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires following prescribed guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices; communicating with diverse groups; and meeting deadlines and schedules.
RESPONSIBILITY:
Responsibilities include: working with immediate supervisor; providing information and/or advising others; and operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the jobs functions. There is some opportunity to affect the Organizations services.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping kneeling crouching and/or crawling; and significant fine-finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 5% sitting 70% walking and 25% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and some hazardous conditions.
