Job Summary

Overview

Position is responsible for the instruction of Medical Terminology course work.

Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for instruction on the component parts of medical terms: prefixes suffixes and word roots.
  2. Responsible for instruction on operative diagnostic therapeutic and symptomatic terminology of all body systems as well as systemic and surgical terminology.
  3. Develop and plan appropriate instructional strategies including but not limited to MyEd Choice face-to-face and online course delivery.
  4. Participate in in-service meetings staff development training or other activities or programs requested by the division.
  5. Assist and advise students who have problems with assignments tests grades course content career concerns and other academic matters.
  6. Comply with college policies and directions regarding student testing record keeping advanced standing providing grades on a timely basis evaluating student performance and maintaining office hours for student assistance and counseling etc.
  7. Maintain competencies as an instructor as aligned with the Faculty Quality Assurance System.
  8. Demonstrate a commitment to the colleges mission vision and values.

Qualifications

Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

  1. Excellent communication and strong problem solving skills.
  2. Ability to interact with diverse populations.
  3. Skill in the use of educational technology and alternative delivery methods.

Education Requirements:

  1. Associate degree in a health-related field that leads to employment in a patient care facility such as a hospital or clinic.

OR

  1. Bachelors degree in Biological Sciences Nursing Health Sciences Animal Science or related field.

OR

  1. Employment in a patient care facility such as a hospital or clinic combined with education training and tested experience preparing a person for the occupation totalling 7 years or 14000 hours.

Ocupational Requirements:

  1. 2 years or 4000 hours in a target job for the course or courses being taught of which at least 1 year (2000 hours) shall be within 5 years prior to the date of appointment.
  2. 1 year (2000 hours) of related occupational experience may be waived if the occupational instructor has at least 2 years of post-secondary teaching experience in the appropriate occupational field within 5 years prior to the date of appointment.
  3. 2 years of post-secondary teaching experience means 8 semesters of part-time teaching or 4 semesters of full-time teaching at an accredited post-secondary degree granting institution.
