What do you offer
The Newcomer Services for Transitional Housing Program Supervisor plays a crucial role in supporting the successful resettlement of refugee claimants and newcomers in Ottawa by building and maintaining partnerships with local agencies and organizations. The position will be responsible for developing and implementing an outreach strategy to engage with community organizations government agencies and other relevant stakeholders to provide comprehensive support services for refugees. The Program Supervisor will also coordinate with Y Transitional Housing case managers to provide wrap around services for all newcomers as part of the program.
The Program Supervisor will also support refugee claimants and newcomers in accessing community services such as healthcare education and employment opportunities through making referrals to partner organizations. This will ensure that clients have access to the resources they need to succeed in their new community.
Some of the tasks of this position include:
- Providing ongoing support to refugee claimants and newcomers as part of the Y Transitional Housing Program.
- Supporting refugee claimants and newcomers in accessing community services such as healthcare education and employment opportunities through making referrals to partner organizations.
- Developing and implementing an outreach strategy to engage with local agencies and organizations to support refugee claimants and newcomers in the Y Transitional Housing Program.
- Establishing and maintaining partnerships with community organizations government agencies and other relevant stakeholders.
- Facilitating cross-collaboration between organizations to address systemic issues that impact refugee claimants and newcomers.
What qualifications and abilities are we looking for

The successful candidate will have the following:
Education
- Post-secondary education or equivalent in a related field
Language
- Fluent in English and French oral and written
- Other languages are an asset
Experience Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of immigrant settlement services specifically refugee resettlement and programs offered for newcomers to Canada
- 4-5 years experience in a related field
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated leadership and high level of judgement
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain partnerships with organizations and community groups
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office online research and data entry
Additional Requirements:
- Applicants must already have a valid permit to work in Canada.
- A Police Record check not more than 6 months old is required. Police Records checks are reviewed on an individual basis and the offense(s) - if any - is considered in the decision-making process in relation to the requirement of working with children therefore not eliminating all candidates with a record from being offered a position.
- Annually staff must complete the mandatory training for the protection of Children & Youth and submit the certificate of completion.
