The role
Were seeking a detail-oriented Accountant & Payroll Officer to manage end-to-end Maltese payroll and provide hands-on support across bookkeeping and month-end. This is ideal for someone with 12 years experience who wants broad exposure in a fast-moving supportive finance team.
Key responsibilities
Payroll (Malta)
- Run monthly payroll from input to payment (starters leavers changes overtime allowances benefits).
- Calculate PAYE and Class 1 SSC prepare and submit FS5 monthly.
- Maintain employee tax records (FS4 updates) and issue FS3 annual statements; support FS7 submissions.
- Prepare SEPA payroll files reconcile payroll control accounts and maintain accurate records.
- Manage leave and time & attendance inputs; resolve day-to-day payroll queries.
- File JobsPlus engagement/termination forms and ensure compliance with Maltese employment and tax legislation plus GDPR.
Accounting & finance
- Process AP/AR (invoices employee expenses payment runs allocations).
- Perform bank supplier and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Support month-end (journals accruals prepayments variance checks) and audit requests.
- Assist with VAT documentation and other regulatory filings as guided.
- Keep orderly digital records and contribute to process improvements.
What youll bring
- 12 years in a payroll or accounting role within Malta.
- Working knowledge of Maltese payroll processes and filings (FS3/FS4/FS5/FS7 JobsPlus).
- Confident with Excel (lookups pivots reconciliations) and high data accuracy.
- Experience with accounting/payroll systems (e.g. Xero Sage QuickBooks Shireburn Indigo or similar).
- Strong organisation confidentiality and a proactive mindset.
- Clear written and spoken English; Maltese is an asset.
Qualifications
- A Level in Accounts / Diploma in Accounting or Payroll (MQF Level 5) required.
- ACCA in progress (or equivalent) is a plus.
Nice to have
- Exposure to payroll for 50200 headcount.
- Experience preparing payroll journals and balancing intercompany recharges.
- Basic understanding of IFRS concepts used at month-end.
