About the Role:

Step into the front lines of critical care at the UF Small Animal Hospital! As an ECC ICU & ER Veterinary Technician youll be part of a fast-paced high-impact team providing hands-on care to our most critical patients from ventilated cases and seizures to open-heart surgeries and acute kidney crises.

As our service continues to grow now offering more advanced treatments such as dialysis and post op care for our open-heart program we are excited to offer multiple full-time opportunities for both day and overnight shifts. These roles follow a compressed schedule of three 13-hour shifts per week (totaling 40 hours) with shift options from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM or 6:00 PM to 8:00 AM. While scheduling is flexible and negotiable at least one shift will likely include partial weekend coverage.

This role is perfect for someone who thrives under pressure has a strong work ethic and is energized by the dynamic nature of emergency and intensive care. Youll rotate through the ER triaging and stabilizing walk-in patients while collaborating closely with clinicians and fellow technicians. Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer treatments and monitor hospitalized critical patients in the ICU.
  • Rotate into the ER to triage stabilize and assist in diagnostic procedures surgeries ultrasounds radiographs and lab submissions.
  • Perform patient discharges and documentation including charges and handovers.
  • Support clinicians in all aspects of patient stabilization including anesthesia and critical interventions.
  • Mentor and guide veterinary students and house officers in ECC best practices.
  • Ensure charges have been made for each patient
  • Perform procedures (cystocentesis ultrasound place central lines nasogastric feeding tubes etc.)

Available Shifts:

  • This area needs coverage 24 hours/7 days a week.
  • The expectations is to work a 40hour week comprising typically of 1 x 13hr shift and 2 x 13.5hr shifts

    The individuals schedule may be adjusted with at least two weeks notice to meet staffing and caseload needs.

Expected Salary:

Non-credentialed Technician: $20-27/hr

Credentialed Technician: $23-32/hr

Position eligible for additional 10% to 30% shift differentials

Overtime available

Minimum Requirements:

Emergency & Critical Care Veterinary Technician I: High school diploma or equivalent and one year of relevant college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Emergency & Critical Care Veterinary Technician II: Credentialed veterinary technician.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 2 years of experience in ECC or emergency medicine
  • Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) certification in Emergency & Critical Care
  • Credentialed veterinary technician (or currently enrolled in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program and/or eligible to sit for the VTNE)
  • Knowledge of veterinary nursing anesthesia diagnostics and medical terminology
