Position overview
The Emergency Room Charge Nurse Nights provides both clinical leadership and direct patient care in a busy community emergency department overseeing night-shift operations and patient flow. This role is ideal for experienced ER nurses with strong leadership critical thinking and decision-making skills who are comfortable working nights only.
Key responsibilities

Serve as the designated Charge Nurse for the Emergency Department during night shifts acting as the primary point of contact for clinical and operational issues.

Oversee patient flow staffing assignments and unit coordination to support safe efficient care and timely dispositions.

Provide direct patient care in emergency and critical situations including triage resuscitation and stabilization.

Support mentor and guide ER nursing staff to ensure adherence to protocols policies and evidence-based practice.

Respond to emergencies and clinical escalations coordinating team response and communicating with providers as needed.

Ensure compliance with hospital policies documentation standards and regulatory requirements.

Document assessments interventions and patient care accurately using the CPSI/Evident EMR system.
Required qualifications

Active California RN license at time of submission.

Minimum 4 years of recent Emergency Room RN experience in an acute care setting.

Prior Charge Nurse experience in the Emergency Department (required).

Current BLS ACLS and PALS certifications.

Proof of negative TB screen within 12 months of contract start per facility policy.

Strong leadership communication and critical thinking skills with the ability and willingness to work night shifts only.

Strong clinical judgment in emergency situations with experience managing high-acuity and trauma patients.

Effective communication and decision-making under pressure with physicians prehospital providers and interdisciplinary teams.

Ability to manage variable volumes and acuity while maintaining throughput and safety.

Professionalism accountability and EMR proficiency preferably with CPSI/Evident.
