Position Overview:

Georgia State Universitys Instructional Innovation and Technology (IIT) division is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Lead Cybersecurity Analyst with a strong foundation in Linux system administration to lead threat detection incident response and security operations. The ideal candidate will have:

At least 5 years of hands-on Linux administration experience

Proven leadership in cybersecurity operations

Experience with SIEM platforms cloud security and security frameworks such as NIST 800-171 and SANS Critical Controls

Strong scripting and automation skills (e.g. Bash Python)

Key Responsibilities

The scope of responsibilities for this position will include but is not limited to the following essential duties:

Security Operations and Monitoring

  • Conduct advanced intrusion detection and threat analysis using security monitoring systems
  • Diagnose and mitigate security incidents and threats to university resources and data in collaboration with Instructional Innovation and Technology personnel
  • Configure and maintain security solutions for optimal performance

Tool and Service Deployment

  • Deploy scalable information security services for departmental and university-wide use
  • Support services such as IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) PaaS (Platform as a Service) MaaS (Monitoring as a Service) MDM (Mobile Device Management) CAMP (Cloud Application Management for Platforms) DaaS (Desktop as a Service) HPC (High Performance Computing) MSS (Managed Security Services) CAMP (Cloud Application Management for Platforms) XaaS (Anything as a Service).

Documentation and Process Development

  • Create and maintain documentation and procedures for security tools and solutions
  • Ensure alignment with standards such as NIST 800-171 and SANS Critical Controls

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Partner with GSU stakeholders internal teams and third-party vendors to secure critical infrastructure networks applications and cloud systems

Digital Forensics and Incident Response

  • Support forensic investigations by collecting and analyzing electronically stored information (ESI)
  • Maintain chain of custody and produce required documentation in accordance with best practices

Minimum Hiring Qualifications:

Bachelors degree and three years of related experience or a combination of education and related experience.

Preferred Hiring Qualifications:

Preference may be given to applicants who in addition to meeting the Minimum Qualifications possess the following:

Extensive Linux expertise: Minimum 5 years of hands-on Linux system administration experience

Cybersecurity leadership: 3 years in a cybersecurity role (team lead or leadership experience preferred)

Technical proficiency: Experience with firewalls Intrusion Detection System/Intrusion Protection System (IDS/IPS) endpoint protection Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) platforms scripting (e.g. Bash Python) and automation tools

Cloud security: Familiarity with securing cloud environments (Amazon Web Services Azure Google Cloud Platform)

Knowledge of security standards: Strong knowledge of frameworks such as NIST ISO 27001 and SANS Critical Controls

Certifications: Relevant credentials such as CISSP CISM CEH GIAC Linux or RHCE

Strong soft skills: Excellent analytical thinking communication and problem-solving abilities
