The Law Society of New South Wales is looking for a permanent full time Access to Justice Officer with strong administration skills to join our Access to Justice team in the heart of Sydneys CBD (Martin Place).
About the team
The Access to Justice Team is dedicated to improving access to justice across New South various programs the team endeavours to help people with their legal needs in a way that is fair and accessible to all irrespective of wealth and status. They also operate alegal information service to members of the Law Society to assist them in their practice.
About the role
You will be joining a team of Access to Justice Officers that are responsible for providing administrative support and referrals for the Pro Bono Scheme the Solicitor Referral Service the Alternative Dispute Resolution Practice and the Locum Service.
What youll be doing
- Processing applications for Pro Bono Assistance including administrative tasks such as opening and closing files and preparing correspondence making necessary inquiries and obtaining relevant documentation for individual applications speaking with applicants and other related parties and referring matters to law firms registered with the Scheme.
- Providing administrative support for Pro Bono matters being conducted on an in-house basis.
- Providing informative and accurate information to law firms and members of the public about the Pro Bono Scheme and promote the Scheme where appropriate.
- Keeping the relevant templates application forms and marketing material up to date.
- Processing applications for referrals under the various Alternative Dispute Resolution programs offered by the Law Society of NSW including the Family Law Settlement Service and the Mediation Program.
- Processing payments conducting conflict checks liaising with practitioners and the Courts and preparing referral documentation.
- Providing accurate referrals to members of the public using the Solicitor Referral Service database.
- Processing requests from LawAccess NSW and email enquiries.
- Attending to inquiries from law firms about the referral service advise them of the benefits to their firm and encourage them to register.
- Providing locum service for law firms seeking the services of panel solicitors including processing applications for assistance.
About you
- Experience working in a legal environment.
- High attention to detail.
- Experience with databases mainly searching and inputting data.
- Comfortable using both the database and telephone simultaneously.
- Experience in working within short timeframes and in a fast-paced environment.
- High level administrative and computing skills in word processing email electronic diary electronic filing and internet applications.
- A commitment to providing professional and timely customer service in a team environment.
- High level of interpersonal and communication skills including effective telephone questioning and listening techniques.
- Proven ability to use clear concise language in correspondence and accurately draft legal documentation.
- Ability to manage conflict with effective conflict resolution skills.
- Experience working in a legal environment (desirable but not essential).
