Located in the heart of Colorado Springs Galileo is a vibrant and diverse public middle school in Colorado Springs School District 11 serving approximately 350 brilliant curious and motivated students. We are committed to the Community Schools Initiative where we partner with families and community to ensure we are focused on the following six key practices: students have integrated systems of support powerful student and family engagement collaborative leadership with shared power and voice expanded enriched learning opportunities rigorous community-connected classroom instruction and a culture of belonging safety and care.

Employees in this category will also receive the following for the 2025-2026 school year:

  1. Non-Recurring Pay: 7% of base salary in Non-Recurring Pay (distributed as 3.5% on November paycheck and 3.5% on May paycheck).
  2. Professional Development Fund (PDF): EXEC Pro employees will be allocated $1500 annually towards a Professional Development Fund (PDF) to be used for professional growth opportunities. Amount allocated will be prorated based upon date and length of hire.
  3. Staffing Stability Incentive (Mitchell High School Only): EXEC Pro employees will receive the equivalent of one salary step divided over 12 pay periods (calculated as the difference between the placed step and the next step x number of hours per week x 4 weeks x 12 months).
  4. Pay for Performance (Mitchell High School):EXEC Pros will receive a Pay for Performance Bonus that is paid out in the fall (utilizing criteria from the previous year).
  5. Additional Performance Bonuses (Turnaround Schools): Additional bonuses may be designed for any Principal who leads a school that is categorized as being a Turnaround School. These will be discussed upon hire.

Base Salary Setting: Employment assignment and salary placement is in accordance with job description requirements. A work history is required to demonstrate job title job duties and time worked in the position. Reference the linkedHow Your Compensation Is Determined for more details.

Salary Setting (New Hires): Newly-employed Executive Professionals will be placed on the twenty (20) step system. Each step represents two years of experience based upon equivalent experience. Beginning in July 2025 The maximum number of years of experience granted is 14 which is equivalent to placement on step seven (7). Steps are determined by experience listed on the application and resume.

Salary Setting (Rehires):Returning employees who have previously resigned or separated from the District will be rehired at the same step they were on at the time of resignation/separation plus any new experience gained in the same job provided step increases were approved by the Board during the years in question.

Employees with experience in the District who have left the District and then returned to the same position shall be hired at the same pay grade(refers to the EXEC Pro placement on salary schedule by job title) and step at time of resignation. Additional relevant experience gained after resignation may be evaluated from the employees application and updated resume.

BENEFITS ELIGIBILITY

Full-Time Regular Employees are eligible for the following Benefits: Medical Dental Vision District Paid Life Insurance Voluntary Life Insurance Voluntary Short Term Disability Voluntary Long-term Disability Medical Flexible Spending Account Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account and the Employee Assistance Program.

Teachers: Teachers in this category must work aminimum of .41 FTE (17.5 hours) per week to be eligible for full employee benefits.

ESP and EXEC Pro Employees: Must work aminimum of .75 FTE(30 hours) per week to be eligible.If an ESP or Executive Professionalemployees hours are decreased to less than 30 hours per week or a teachers hours decreased to less than 17.5 hours per week the employee will no longer continue to be eligible to receive the benefits as of the end of the month in which the hours were reduced.

Temporary one-on-one Educational Assistants. Employees in this category who are workingat least six hours per day and havecompleted two (2) consecutive years of service by July 1stwill be changed from temporary status to regular status and will have the same sick leave as a regular status employee.

Retirees Working 30 Hours/Week or 140 Days:Retirees who satisfy the eligibility requirements of30 hours or more per week or qualify for one of the Districts 140 day slots may be eligible for the 75%/25% or 85%/15% premium share for employee only premium based on the health plan chosen and 70% for all other premium tiers of the plan (employee spouse employee child(ren) and family).

Part-Time Regular Employees are eligible for the following Benefits: Employee Assistance Program and pro-rated sick leave.

ESP and EXEC Pro Employees (less than 6 hours a day) and Teachers (workingless than 3.5 hours a day): Such employees shall receive pro-rated sick leave as well as the opportunity to use accumulated sick leave days as personal leave days based on the number of hours worked daily and arenot eligible for all available benefits.

JOB DESCRIPTION

SUMMARY OF FUNCTION

The Turnaround Principal provides transformational leadership to plan launch and manage a turnaround school. This includes implementing an improvement model focused on high student achievement; building a positive school climate that supports the whole student; leveraging research and data to drive instruction; and building a high-performing staff and leadership team to achieve the schools vision and goals. The Turnaround Principal is a dynamic results-oriented leader responsible for the rapid improvement of underperforming schools developing and executing a bold vision for student achievement while engaging families staff and the community in the school improvement process.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive school turnaround plan aligned with district goals and state accountability systems.
  • Serve as an instructional leader by coordinating the development and monitoring the implementation of the school improvement plan in accordance with the district mission.
  • Work in partnership with any and all turnaround partners as assigned by the district
  • Analyze data to inform instruction and intervention strategies planning differentiated support for staff and students.
  • Develop implement and sustain an embedded collaborative professional learning model focused on improving instructional practices and increasing student achievement.
  • Recruit hire and retain high-quality teachers and staff while creating a culture of continuous feedback accountability and support.
  • Foster a safe supportive and inclusive school environment and build a strong school culture based on trust high expectations and mutual respect.
  • Engage students families and community members as partners in school improvement responding to diverse community interests and needs.
  • Ensure effective use of resources including budgeting and staffing aligned to turnaround priorities and monitor progress toward performance benchmarks.
  • Lead targeted instructional interventions and monitor their effectiveness through ongoing data analysis.
  • Ensure all teachers receive individualized coaching and professional development to meet diverse student needs.
  • Establish clear school-wide systems and routines that prioritize instructional time and minimize disruptions.
  • Collaborate with district leadership to secure additional resources and support for school turnaround initiatives.
  • Promote innovative instructional strategies that align with state standards and address gaps in student learning.
  • Develop partnerships with external organizations to enhance student support services and enrichment opportunities.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Masters degree in Educational Leadership or a related field.
  • Valid administrativelicense (State of Colorado) or ability to obtain
  • Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of successfulprincipalexperience preferably in a high-need or turnaround setting.

PREFERRED

  • Experience managing school transformation or turnaround initiatives.
  • Bilingual or multilingual abilities.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to designated District Leadership and works collaboratively with district staff families and community partners.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed in a school and office environment with frequent interaction with staff students and community members.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Requires sufficient physical ability to work in a school setting including occasional lifting of materials and extended periods of standing or sitting.
